Alex Ferree Wins First-Ever Dog Hollow Checker In Super Lates

STRONGSTOWN, PA (June 2, 2017) – Alex Ferree made a visit to Dog Hollow Speedway a winning one in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Lates. The Saxonburg driver won for the first time at the Northern Cambria facility. Clate Copeman won his first Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Model feature while Justin Koebler won for the first time in the Super 6 Late Models. John Lee (358 Semi Lates) and Kyle Smith, Jr. (AMSOIL Pure Stocks) both won for the second time this season. Jack Theys won two DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinder A-Mains.

The make-up DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinder feature from April 28 was run in between heats. Tom Pavelko led the opening two laps before Noah Swank took over for two more. South Forks’ Jack Theys then assumed command on lap five. Theys, Pat Brehm, Swank and Mike Phillipson put on a good four car battle. Theys was able to stay out front to take the win over Brehm, Phillipson, Tom Pavelko and Chuck Dizzle. Brady Miller, Mike Potter, Larry Weltz, Brandon Pearce and Marc Whetstone, Jr. were the top ten.

Recent high school graduate, Amber Mills, was well on her way to victory number one in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks. Mills took the lead at the drop of the green and led 14 laps of the 15 laps event. Coming down for the white flag something happened to her machine and Windber’s Kyle Smith drove by to the lead the all important final lap for his second win of the season. Shawn Shoemaker was second followed by Tyler Wagner, Bryan Benton (subbing for Brad Benton) and Fred Casagni. Duke Davidson and Mills were the heat race winners.

Shawn Claar led the opening laps of the 25-lap Townsend Gas & Oil Super Lates. A restart on lap two saw visitor Alex Ferree take over at the point. Ferree and Claar pulled away from the pack with only one caution slowing the event. Ferree won for the first time-ever at Dog Hollow Speedway. Claar was second ahead of Dave Blazavich, Jeff Sweeney and Clate Copeman. Claar won the lone heat.

Mahaffey’s Jon Lee won for the second time in the 358 Semi Late divison. Nate Smith had control of the first eight laps. Smith’s car pushed on a restart on lap eight and Lee sailed by to take over the top spot. Lee drove off to take the win over Dan Ferry, Jr., Joe Brawley, Shane Nihart and Nate Smith. Smith was the heat winner.

The 20-lap Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Model feature saw Joe Moyer leading at the drop of the green. Moyer lost the lead on a lap three restart to Greensburg driver Clate Copeman. Copeman couldn’t shake Moyer from his rear bumper but was able to hold on for his first crate late model win. Moyer, Bryan Benton, Corey Neal (from 11th), Andrew Wylie, Chris Frank, Mike Laughard (from 15th), Mike Hite, Greg Beach and Colin Casale rounded out the top ten. Heat races were won by Moyer and Copeman.

Justin Koebler took the lead on lap six when leader Frank McFeaters spun and went on the capture the 15-lap feature for the Super 6 Late Models. Mike Spinneweber, McFeaters, Abby Blazavich and Levi Spinneweber were the top five. McFeaters won the heat.

In the final feature of the night, JackTheys made it two wins on the night in the 12-lap DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinders. Theys led all 15-laps for his third win of the season. Noah Swank was second ahead of Tom Pavelko, Brady Miller, Dylan Young, Mike Potter, Pat Brehm, Mike Phillipson, Shawn Miller and Chris Dodson. Taking the heat race wins were Phillipson, Potter and Brehm.
