Open Wheel Championships Coming To Atomic

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-One of the largest Open Wheel racing shows east of the Mississippi River of coming to Ohio this Friday and Saturday, July 31st-August 1, when the UNOH All-Star Circuit of Champions come to town at the Atomic Speedway. The winged outlaw sprint car series will pay $5,000 to win Friday and $10,000 to win Saturday, making this one of the most significant two-day shows in the country.

Joining the winged warriors Friday will be the non-wing BOSS Sprint cars and Racesaver 305 sprints. The first-ever BOSS event was held in July of 2011 at Atomic. California driver Justin Grant won that day. In the last 4 years BOSS has grown into the largest regional non-wing series in the country, second overall only to USAC. Now BOSS returns to Atomic where it all began this Friday night.

Saturday’s program consists of All-Star winged sprints, AMRA Modifieds and Racesaver 305 sprints. Modifieds are $2,000 to win and $200 to start!

Thursday night, July 30 Atomic will host a pit party and cornhole tournament starting at 6 p.m. Teams can enter the cornhole tournament at $20 per team. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. Several All Star drivers will be in attendance and participating in the cornhole tournament.

Tickets are on sale in the office by the pit concession from 9-5 Mon-Thursday for the 2nd Open Wheel Championship. You can also reserve your camping spot for the wknd only $25.

The party in the pits Thursday night kicks off the weekend at Atomic Speedway! The party is free for fans with a track sponsored cornhole tournament open to anyone. Entry for the cornhole tournament is $20 per team. But just to come hang out enjoy the evening is free.

Pre-sale General Admission tickets and or pit passes can be purchased this week from 9AM – 5PM each day until Friday. On Friday they can be purchased from 9AM – Noon.

Two-day day general admission tickets can be purchased at $40 or individual tickets daily at $22 Friday, 12-and-under free; and Saturday $25, 12-and-under free.

Two-day day pit passes can be purchased at $60 or bought individually at $35 daily or $20 for kids 12-and-under in the pits.

A limited number of reserve tickets are available. Tickets can be purchased by calling Atomic Speedway from 9-5 Mon-Fri or they can be purchased on race days. Call 740-703-9749 for more details.

Promoter Brad McCown just made a deal with Kears Speed Shop to purchase several sets of the tethers that are required by the ASCOC. Brad will allow drivers to pay him in payments for these tethers so OVSCA drivers can all race. “I want all of our local OVSCA teams to be able to race and enjoy our bigger events as well as weekly shows,” said McCown. “Contact me if you are interested in purchasing a set of tethers for the Open Wheel Championship this weekend.”

Due to scheduling conflicts with other tracks season points there will be no Mini Sprints on Fridays program.
August’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series visit to Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, has been expanded to two events, setting up an Aug. 21-22 WoO LMS doubleheader at the 3/8-mile track. The additional Atomic event, which replaces a recently canceled race at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., gives the national tour a three-race weekend with Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., set to host the series on Sun., Aug. 23. The weekend opener at Atomic on Fri., Aug. 21 will pay $8,000 to the winner, while the event on Sat., Aug. 22 will pay $10,000.
