Firestorm Lives Up to Expectations! Hot Racing Unfolds

(Peebles, OH) As the gates opened, fans flooded in for the biggest and most anticipated night of the year at the Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. This past Friday, the Independence Day Weekend was kicked off with a bang and the 15th Annual Winchester Carpet Outlet Firestorm! The entire community knows that the Fireworks show on July 3rd is always a must see event along with the racing action, but this year fans were blown away by what they witnessed!
The Crazy Compacts were the first cars to roll onto the speedway. Kyle Purdy hasn’t raced all year but made his return for the Firestorm. Purdy rocked out in front early and never looked back. Kyle Purdy picked up the win followed by Clyde Saunders, Chris Shelton, Kevin Howell and Jerry Smith. In victory lane, Kyle Purdy said he wasn’t sure of his plans for the remainder of 2015 but was glad to come right out and win.
The Hidden Gem Web Designs Sport Mods hit the speedway after Chris Smalley picked up another win in the Southern Ohio Lighting Mini-Sprints. Emily Jordan and Mitchell Fields made up the front row. Right at the drop of the green Fields stretched his legs out up front. Emily Jordan lost several spots early but as the race continued on, she made her way back up front! Jordan couldn’t get to Mitchell Fields. Fields and Jordan crossed the finish line ahead of Derek Richmond, Jimmy Spillman and Danny Fout who rounded out the top 5 in the 20 car field.
The Modified division rolled out for a 25 Lap Feature event. Local driver Rusty Hawes of Peebles, OH came into the night with his best chance to pick up his first career Modified win. From the drop of the green Hawes was fast out front. Hawes was able to navigate the early cautions to hold the lead but soon had a rear view mirror full of Adam Colley. Colley was able to get by Hawes and he soon found himself in a battle with Dave Jamison! Jamison looked up and seen the white flag and knew he had to make something happen. Coming out of turn 4 Jamison dove low but came up just a bit short. Adam Colley picked up the win by holding of the D4 car. Following the top two cars were Adam Stricker, Rob Starkey and Eric Berry in the top 5.
The Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Car Series was the final group of cars to hit the speedway. Jerren Perdue and Josh Francis were the stars of the 20 Lap Feature event. Perdue was the early leader but the 2014 Champion and 2015 Points Leader Josh Francis was hot on his heels! As the laps wound down Francis kept working high and low. Perdue was able to hold of the 2 car and pick up yet another win. Following Perdue and Francis across the line was Steve Duderstadt, Derek Minshew and John Gutman rounding out the top 5.
The fans were then treated to an outstanding fireworks show in which they chose the Infield Shooters as the winner of the Dueling Fireworks! BMC would like to thank Winchester Carpet Outlet and Hedrick’s Garage for their help in putting on this awesome event! All fans were invited to the 2016 Firestorm set to take place on Sunday July 3rd, 2016!
Brushcreek Motorsports Complex is back in action this weekend as the 410 Winged Sprint Cars return racing for $2,500 to win! The OVSCA is back to put on what always turns out to be an awesome show.
