Conneaut, OH (August 23, 2016): The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Touring Series will visit Raceway 7 Friday for a $500 to win feature that will carry a $500 bonus if a registered Touring series member wins. Rob Bates and Leigh Wheeler have both won features at Raceway 7 this summer and are expected to be in contention for the win.
Also on tap will be the second appearance of the Pennsylvania Vintage Dirt Modifieds. The dirt modifieds were very important to the early years of Raceway 7 and still are crowd pleasers. Gary Haupt, a regular competitor in the formative years, won the appearance of the group in May and is expected to return, as are Jim “Dingo” Kirkwood, Alan Bylery, Les Myers, and others.
All five regular divisions have points races that are. Still undecided with only two points nights left. Bates is the current Raceway 7 Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock points leader by a 107-point margin over defending champion Shaun Fawcett. Chris McGuire is currently third. All have feature wins this season. Chris Schneider currently leads the Penn Ohio Touring Series standings after four events over Brent Johnson and Bobby Whitling. With only two weeks left in the season every spot will count so competition for the win will be intense.
The Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Models championship is still very close. Only 23 points separate Dennis Lunger from Darrell Bossard in the ranking. Lunger, the 2009 champion, has two wins on the season while Bossard has three. Third running Kyle Zimmerman, a former champion, has four wins but is 95 points out of the title chase lead.
With seven wins this summer in ten appearances, former champion Joel Watson leads the Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mods over Dennis Lunger, who won his first E-Mod feature on August 5. The difference is only 19 points. Troy Johnson, winless this season at Raceway 7, is currently third, another 39-points back.
Steve Haefke, a six time feature winner, leads the Bonnell Auto Sales Economod points race, but only by 20 markers overs defending champion Rick Prosser, a two time winner. Eric Reinwald, the winner on June 10, is third, 192 points out of the lead. With a maximum of 150 points available on any given night, Haefke and Prosser are the only cars who have a mathematical chance of winning the title.
Jason Easler has dominated the McDonald’s Sand & Gravel Mini Stock Victory Lane this summer and leads Hoyt Mihalak by 79 points heading into the final two events. If Easler finishes ahead of Mihalak at the end of the evening he will clinch the points title for his first championship at Raceway 7. Former champion Bud Sergeff is 185-points from the lead so is eliminated from gaining another championship. Defending champion Brad Cole is back in fifth, also eliminated from the title.
