Conneaut, OH (July 27, 2016): Super Late Models were long a mainstay of racing at Raceway 7, being the featured class when the track opened 46 years ago. Sunday night the 800 horsepower ground-pounders will return to the storied track with a 25-lap feature paying $1500 to the winner. With nearby Eriez Speedway running a special Friday night show the decision was made to give the area Super Late Models a place to race Sunday and not hold an event Friday. All five regular classes will be in action and points will be awarded. In addition to the Super Late Models, the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Series also will race, with $500 the first place purse. However, if the winner is a registered Penn-Ohio member, the organization will pay a $500 bonus to the winning driver.
The Blair’s, Rob (the final points champion in the class) and Max, the most recent Super Late Model victor at Raceway 7), are expected to be in the field as well as Dave Hess Jr, who also has a rich history at the track. Darrel Bossard will likely have his Super Late Model racer at the track along with his CARS Crate Late Model entry. Local star Breyton Santee, a CARS Crate Late Model regular, should also be among the racers vying for the win.
In the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Series will run twenty laps with 2015 winner Rusty Martz expected to lead the charge. Martz is currently tied for ninth in the standings with his best finish in ’16 a third. Points leader Chris Schneider is a slim four points ahead of Brian Rhed but has not yet won a feature this season. Rob Shook, Todd Weldon and Nathan Smith have wins. Locally, Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock pending night winner Rob Bates holds a huge 125-point lead over Shawn Fawcett with Chris McGuire a further 122 points back. Both Fawcett, the defending champion, and McGuire have scored wins this summer as have Leigh Wheeler and Jimmy Kennerknecht.
Dennis Lunger holds the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Model points lead over Darrell Bossard by a slim eight points with former champion Kyle Zimmerman third. All three have feature victories this season as does fourth-running Wendall Pinckney and former champion Chad Wright.
Dennis Lunger won his first Bonnell Collision Center E-Mod feature last Friday and now sits second opinion points to many-time champion and seven time 2016 winner Joel Watson by 103 markers. Troy Johnson not yet a winner this season, is third, another 25 points back of Lunger. Mike Potosky and Mike Kinney are the other winners this season.
Steve Haefke leads the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economods, but only by 15-points over defending champion Rick Prosser, also a winner this summer. Eric Reinwald, with a win this year, is third, another 102 points back. Young Tyler Frankenberry and former champion Josh Ferry also have wins.
Jason Easler has dominated the McDonalds Sand & Gravel Mini Stock features this summer, winning seven times and leading the points by 79 over Hoyt Mihalak, shut out of Victory Lane this summer. Third is the two-time former champion Bud Sergeff. Besides Easler, Sergeff, Andy Proper, and defending champion Brad Cole have been victorious in feature competition.
