Rudolph Wins Big Block Modified Tilt At Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (July 1, 2016): Independence Day was celebrated at Raceway 7 Friday night with fireworks by Gibson, the BRP Modified Tour, and all five regular classes. Twenty-three of the ground-pounding bog block modifieds signed in headed by defending race winner Dave Murdick, defending champion Rex King Sr, and current points leader Erick Rudolph, who went on to win the event after strong challenges from Jeremiah Shingledecker. In regular action Darrell Bossard led the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Model distance for his second win of 2016. Mike Potosky also collected his second season win in the Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods, taking over the front spot at lap six, Chris McGuire collected his third Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock win of the year. For Steve Haefke it was win number five on the season in Bonnell Auto Sales Exonomod action and Jason Easler continued his dominance in the McDonalds Sand & Gravel Mini Stocks, winning his sixth of the season in nine events.

The Evergreen Lake Park Campgrounds CARS Crate Late Model feature started Travis Martineau and Darrell Bossard on the front row with Bossard immediately coming to the front and Dennis Lunger coming to second at the end of one lap. At the end of two it was Wendell Pinckney third and last week’s winner Kyle Zimmerman fourth. With two complete Ed Bolyard and Hunter Hulley spun in turn one, putting the race under caution for the first time. At five complete Chris Withers was fourth, the only car in the top five still looking for a win. Hulley spun again at six laps, again bunching the field. On the back straight after green Hulley, Brandon Porter, Travis Martineau, and Alex Anderson crashed hard, bringing red over the event. Hulley was sent pitside for being in three cautions with Porter, Martineau, and Anderson all unable to continue. Bossard again led back to green with Lunger, Pinckney, Zimmerman, and Withers following. Pinckney made several attempts to get by Lunger, drawing alongside at times, but unable to complete the pass, although making a gallant effort. It was Bossard’s second win of the season.

The Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods were brought to green by Troy Johnson and Dennis Lunger, both looking for their first wins of the season. Lunger led lap one with Mike Potosky coming to second. By three laps in, six-time winner Joel Watson was third. At five laps in Potosky nosed ahead at the stripe by a bumper and was leading at six complete. Potosky them lengthened his lead, looking for his second win of the season. At nine laps in Watson was second. The halfway point had the order Potosky, Watson, Lunger, Matt Lux, and pole-sitter Johnson. Jesse Gould spun in turn one at twelve laps complete, erasing Potosky’s nearly one second lead with eight laps left. Potosky shot out to a five length lead at the green with Watson, Lunger, Lux, and Johnson following. Potosky continued to stretch his lead until two laps left when Lux and Lunger got together in turn four slowing the event again. Potosky again led with Watson, Johnson, Mike Kinney, and Dan McDonald filling out the top five. That was the order at the finish with Potosky gaining his second win of the season.

Shannon Whaley and points leader Erick Rudolph brought the BRP Modified Tour to green but the field was only to turn two when Shawn Fleeger’s car erupted in a cloud of smoke, causing a complete restart. Rudolph was the leader at the end of lap one with Whaley second. Brad Rapp was third with Kevin Boland fourth and Mark Flick fifth. For the double file restart Rudolph chose the high line with Whaley inside. Boland immediately came to third and then took over the runner-up spot at turn three. At ten complete it was Rudolph, Boland, Whaley, Rapp, and Flick. The leaders started lapping the back markers at twelve complete. J R McGinley spun in turn one on lap eighteen right in front of the leaders, collecting second-running Kevin Boland and three other competitors. Boland needed to be towed from the scene. For the restart it was Rudolph, Rapp, Whaley, Flick, and Dave Murdick. Rudolph again chose the high line for the restart, this time with Rapp inside. Rudolph shot out to the lead again with Jeremiah Shingledecker coming to third at nineteen complete from his eleventh starting spot just as caution flew for Skip Moore, slow on the track in turn four trying to pit. At twenty complete Eric Gabany slid high in turn three coming to a halt and again slowing the race under caution. Mark Flick was now second with Rapp third, and Shingledecker fourth. Whaley was now back to fifth. Shingledecker was second one lap past green with Garrett Krummert up to third. With ten to go Shingledecker was right on the leader’s rear bumper and drew even at the end of the back straight, then ahead but Rudolph’s lead was restored when caution again appeared for an eight car pileup before the leaders got to the end of the lap. For the green with eight laps left it was Rudolph, Shingledecker, Krummert, Flick, and Rapp. Dave Murdick, the winner in the last two appearances of the tour at Raceway 7, was seventh at this point, behind Rex King Jr. With five to go Singledecker was all over the leader and pulled alongside with two left. On the final lap Singledecker tried in turn one but Rudolph pulled away on the back chute and on to the win. Krummert was third at the stripe with Rapp fourth, and Murdick fifth.

Joe Stajnragh and two time winner Chris McGuire brought the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks to green with McGuire taking the immediate lead and Rob Bates, also a two time winner, coming to second. At the time of the first caution at lap three for the spun car of David Snyder, the top five were McGuire, Bates, Stajnragh, defending champion and two time winner, Shawn Fawcett, and Mark Sanders. Sanders came to fourth at five laps in but Stajnragh fought back and was alongside at lap six. At seven in , Sanders was solidly in the spot then Stajnragh roared back to the position at nine complete. At ten laps McGuire was into lapped traffic but continued to build his lead. At the finish it was McGuire attaining his third win of the year over points leader Bates, defending champion Fawcett, Stajnragh, and Chris Myers, with a late race charge.

Eric Reinwald and Zack Myers got the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economod feature underway with Reinwald leading the way until spinning In turn four, collecting Devon Henry in the process. Zack Myers and Dennis Dellinger brought the field back to green but Henry slid into the turn one wall, stopping the race under red. For failing to stop on the red flag Myers was sent to the rear. Defending champion Rick Prosser and Dellinger brought the race to green with Steve Haefke coming to second then alongside the leader at the end of one. Mitch Wright spun in turn two before another lap was in the books with Prosser, Haefke, Dellinger, Gary Miller, and Mike Harmon the top five. Haefke, trying for his fifth win on the season came by for the lead at the end of two laps. Dellinger was second at the end of three. Zack Myers spun in turn two at three laps complete. With only one more green flag lap complete Jace Ferringer looped his mount in turn one. For the next try at getting the race going it was Haefke, Dellinger, Prosser, Miller, and Gary Olson, all the way from eighteenth on the grid. At seven laps in, Olson’s great run was slowed by spinning in turn two, yet again slowing the race. Wright spun on turn one after green, collecting Olson. At halfway it was Haefke, Dellinger, Mike Harmon, Prosser, and Zack Myers. Olson again spun in turn four with five left, his third caution, sending him to the pit. Haefke went on to his fifth win of the season and third in a row over Dellinger, Harmon, Zack Myers, and Prosser.

The McDonalds Sand & Gravel Mini Stocks had Bud Sergeff and Mike Barr on the front row with former champion Sergeff leading the way after one lap. With three laps in Isaac Paden got into the turn four wall, then Kyle Adkins slapped the wall on the front straight. Seven cars crashed hard on the back straight with five complete, bringing red out. Involved cars included Derrick Tuttle, Jessica Harvey, Mike Barr, Emily Stoyer, Alex Forbes, Isaac Paden, and Zoey Gill. Only five cars were left to complete the remaining seven laps with current points leader Jason Easler and former champion Bud Sergeff even at the end of six laps but Sergeff was leading at the end of seven. Easler came back to the lead at eight complete with defending champion Brad Cole up to second. At the checkers it was Easler for his sixth win of the season over Cole, Sergeff, Hoyt Mihalak, and Jessica Harvey.
