8th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial This Weekend

In what will be the 8th running of the popular Greg Schilling Memorial event, the Legendary Hilltop Speedway is set to host the special event this coming Friday night (June 24th) for the second straight season in 2016. The event which originally took place at the Skyline Speedway in Stewart Ohio upon it’s inception, has since been moved to the Hilltop Speedway in Marietta and now features an even greater payout and serves as more of a central location for the Schilling family and friends. The event which is known for it’s impressive AMRA Modified payout that nears a total of $20,000 and awards $2,099 to the winner, has seen some of the regions top names such as Conley, Dickson and Aukland take the win over the previous seven running’s. Along with the AMRA Modified special, the event will also feature racing in the always exciting AMRA Late Model division, AMRA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders and Mini Wedges.
Just 2 weeks removed from what was one of the richest AMRA Modified events ever, as Legendary Hilltop held the conclusion of the River City Showdown, an even greater field of cars are expected to converge on the track for the evening of racing. Drivers such as 6 time AMRA Champion Kenny Johnson, River City Showdown winner Jacob Hawkins, plus always stout regional favorites such as DJ Cline, Jason Brookover, Larry Bond and Tyler Evans and many more are all expected to fill the pits for a shot to add their name to the impressive list of event winners in the Friday night special. Along with a stout field of AMRA Late Models on hand and racing in all other classes, this year’s Greg Schilling Memorial looks to be one of the most intense and special running’s of the annual event.
Aside from the racing itself, the Greg Schilling Memorial race has become an a popular staple in the racing season for both competitors and fans alike, as the event celebrates the life of the late Greg Schilling and serves as an opportunity to continue Greg’s legacy through the work of the Greg Schilling Memorial Fund. With the sale of T-Shirts, 50/50 and even an auction for the final starting spot in the evenings feature, the event raises thousands of dollars annually for the memorial fund, which is then distributed in the form of multiple college scholarships and donations to families who are fighting medical issues. With an excellent crowd expected to be on hand this Friday night, the staff at Legendary Hilltop Speedway along with all other parties associated with the event, intend to make the event the fun and exciting atmosphere that is always has been through giveaways, contests and exciting racing.
This Friday’s Greg Schilling Memorial will kick off with gates swinging open at 3 PM and a Drivers Meeting set for 6:45. Mini Wedges will take to the track first at 7:05 for their heats and Hot Laps will then follow. Due to the expected large crowd, fans are encouraged to get to the track early on Friday their seat for the evening and can check out some of the ongoing excitement as the track will be doing giveaways and Phantom Race Gear will be selling Greg Schilling Memorial merchandise.
