Conley, Lonas & Fritter No Strangers To Hilltop Victory Lane

After weeks of uncooperative weather, Mother Nature changed her ways as the sun was shining on the Hill for the 135 cars that entered the pits ensuring a spectacular night of races.

Making their first appearance of the year, the JPR Auto & Tire mini wedge division had a total of 15. Heat race winners were Zoe Stafford, Logan Duncan and Billy “The Kid” Dawson with Levi Crider picking up the last chance race.

Bringing the youngsters to the green, Stafford would jump out front over Duncan. After multiple cautions, Stafford would remain in the lead. However, working his way through the field up to second, from his eight place starting position, was Reece Bollinger. Back under green, Bollinger would work the inside of Stafford down the front stretch and take the lead going on to pick up his first win of the season. Finishing third was Levi Crider, fourth Donnie Danley and fifth went to Carson Hubbard.

Setting fast time among 27 in the Holmes Tire late model division was “Hammer Down” Doug Drown with a 14.07. Heat race winners were Brad Malcuit and Matt Irey with the dash win going to John Wyer. Picking up the last chance race was Brad Mickley.

Bringing the stout field of late models to the start was Wyer, who would jump out front early with Drown and “Flyin” Ryan Markham right on his bumper. Challenging for top spot, Drown would begin to gain ground on Wyer. Ten laps down caution would come out bunching the field back up. Back under green, it was Wyer to the high side with Drown working the low line, side by side the two would go lap after lap to the line with Drown taking the lead on lap twelve. Also on the move from his eleventh place starting position was “The Flying Ace” Corey Conley who had worked his way up to third, challenging now second, Wyer. Successfully taking second, Conley would set his sights on Drown. With five laps to go, the two would work through lap traffic with Conley making up ground and taking the lead on lap twenty-one. Thus, going on to pick up back to back wins to start the 2016 season was Corey Conley. Rounding out the top five was Doug Drown, John Wyer, Ryan Markham and Matt Irey.

Next to hit the track were the John’s Custom Embroidery & Screen Printing modifieds with a field of 25. Fast qualifier for the division was Lance Elson with a 15.442. Picking up heat race wins were “Rockin” Robin Duston and “Stromin” Norman Aronhalt with Rex Frohnapfel Jr. winning the dash and Chris Basich claiming the last chance race.

Setting the pace to the green, it was hall of famer Rick Aukland who would take the lead off of turn two over Frohnapfel. Working his way around Larry Moran to take over second was Bruce Takach, as Aukland would extend his lead over the field. Also working their way up to third and fourth from seventh and eighth place starting positions was Aronhalt and Duston. As the laps dwindled, Aukland would continue his dominance through lap traffic going on to pick up his first win at the Hill for the season. Finishing second was Bruce Takach followed by Norm Aronhalt, Robin Duston and Larry Moran.

The Holmes Pest Control street stocks had a field of 12 with Mike Lonas setting fast time with a 16.398. The only heat race win went to Don Townsend with Bob Daugherty winning the dash.

With Daugherty on point, leading the field down the backstretch to the green, he would take the top spot with Mike Lonas right on his bumper. As the battle ensued between the two top runners, Daugherty would push up the track in turn four causing him to fall back in the field. With Lonas out front and David Potts a close second, the race for positions third through fifth ensued between Kevin Potts, Don Townsend and Bob Daugherty. Nevertheless, no stranger to victory lane, picking up the back to back wins was Mike Lonas. Rounding out the top five was David Potts, Kevin Potts, Bob Daugherty and Don Townsend.

There were 18 in the Rigz Towing modlites division with Tracy Fritter and Kacy Campbell each picking up a heat win. Coming to the green, last week’s winner, Fritter, took the early lead as Brian Stuhldreher and Kacy Campbell went lap for lap for the second spot. Unfortunately, Campbell would have troubles causing him to fall back in the field, leaving Stuhldreher to focus on Fritter. However, maintaining his position and picking up back to back wins was Tracy Fritter, with Stuhldreher finishing second, Rory Reed third, Eddie Smith III fourth, and Clint Snyder fifth.

The Short Track Fire & Rescue mini stocks had a field of 28 with Blaine Markey, Greg Thompson and Zach Chaffin claiming heat race wins. With the field set, it was Markey and Thompson sitting on the front row of their 12-lap feature event. After an early roll over by Markey and a chaotic, caution filled start to the race, it was Colton St. John who would take the top spot and go on to pick up the win. Finishing second was Matt Miller, third was Michael Rose, fourth Billy Parsons and fifth went to Tyler Parsons.

The Bugs-R-Gone truck division had a field of ten with Travis Winterringer and Tim Lillibridge picking up each of the heat race wins setting them on the front row for the night’s feature event. With the green out it was Winterringer taking the lead over Lillibridge and last week’s winner John Large. Remaining out front, leading every lap and picking up his second ever feature victory was Travis Winterringer followed by Tim Lillibridge, John Large, CJ Muth, and Dwayne Powell.
