Wilmoth Wins Tyler County Thriller

(Middlebourne, WV) A standing room only crowd “Packed the Track” at the Tyler County Speedway with Paul Wilmoth, Vic Vandergrift, Donnie Wamsley, Jamie McCloud, Travis Thomas, Gabe Phillips, Tristen Borkoski, and Chase Settles picking up hard earned victories in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
A bulging pit area of 123 cars would navigate the table top smooth ‘bullring’ surface with the kids of the MWRA JJK Mineral Mini Wedge division kicking off the program. The twenty six entrants would be split into two groups with Tristen Borkoski continuing to dominate the Junior division while Chase Settles would garner the win in the Advanced class.
A fantastic J&R Excavating Super Late Model main event presented by Midcap Land & Timber would leave fans in awe as four cars would cross the stripe a mere 00.787 separating the foursome. Kyle Thomas would lead the field to the green flag and bolt out and set a quick pace ahead of Paul Wilmoth. Wilmoth would begin reeling in Thomas as the first year late model driver was seeking his first ‘Bullring’ late model victory. At the race midway point Wilmoth had caught Thomas and the lead duo were now in a side by side duel. With the leaders at it hot and heavy the 3rd and 4th place running cars of Steve Wilmoth and Derrick Doll were reeling the frontrunners in. As the racers received the white flag it was now a four car pack with Wilmoth and Thomas working the bottom, Doll the middle and Steve Wilmoth working the highside. The top four were covered by a proverbial blanket as the fans were on their feet as Paul Wilmoth would grab the thrilling win ahead of Kyle Thomas, Steve Wilmoth Derek Doll and Steve Weigle rounding out the top five. Clarksburg, WV’s Wilmoth would pick up his first 2015 Tyler County Speedway victory aboard the familiar B1/ Quick Time Suspension/ Midcap Land & Timber/ Octane Race Products/ NAPA/ Kryptonite machine.
In the Two Brothers Motorsports Modified main event it was an excited Vic Vandergrift of Fairmont, WV picking up the feature win. Vandergrift aboard the Dave Groves owned mount sponsored by Tri City Electric/ 2 Brothers/ Melvins #GRS1 would blast off the front row using the ‘Bullring’ topside as his line of choice and would dominate the main. Vandergrift would lead strong early season runner Jeff Fornash, Mark Dickson, Codi Eaton and Chad Smith to the checkered.
Elkins, WV invader Jamie McCloud would make a rare appearance at the ‘Bullring’ a good one as the driver of the Tommy Pennington owned #37/ Millers Used Cars/ Papa John Pizza/ Melvins of Fairmont/Swecker Surveying/ Rocket would take a liking to the Tyler County Speedway surface to claim his first feature win in the Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model division. McCloud would hold off past feature winner Daniel Hill across the stripe. Following the lead duo were Ryan Payne, Danny Thomas and Joel Prosser.
In a highly competitive 18 car Chris Metz State Farm Insurance Modlite presented by Cedar Run Farms field it was first time winner Gabe Phillips of Thornton, WV piloting the #15/ Grenade Coatings/ Preston Urgent Care/ Quick Time Suspension/ Extreme Motorsports/ Eliminator Race Cars. A pair of youngsters Ryan Saffell and Daniel Eddy would lead the field to green each taking a turn at the top spot before handing the lead over to Phillips who would hold off a hard charging Josh Baldwin, Zak Kimbrew, John Cogar and Randy Kerns.
A competitive Hotmod feature event would see a familiar face back in victory lane as Middlebourne, WV’s Travis Thomas would park his #18 Sigler Fabrication/ Norman Jackson Trucking/ Kings Corner entry on the frontstretch. Thomas beat Mick Baker, Tim Pennell, Stevi Magyar and Kip Todd to round out the top five.
Clarksburg, WV’s Donnie Wamsley would garner his first win of the season thrilling many of his hometown fans. The five time track champion would best April Tennant, Scott Critchfield, Jason Frazier and Wesley Tennant to the line in the Lipps Towing FWD 4 Cylinder division.
