Southern Ohio Speedway Opening Night Preview

WHEELERSBURG, OH-Following a rainout on April 3rd, Premier Physical & Occupational Therapy Opening Night is now set for this Friday, April 10th. The racing card will boast nearly $15,000 in purse money with Late Models-$2,000 to win, $250 to start, Modifieds-$750 to win, $140 to start, Sport Mods-$300 to win, $35 to start, Late Model Consolation Feature-$400 to win, and Modified Consolation Feature-$200 to win.

Late Model Preview
Opening Night tends to always produce one of the most exciting shows of the season for the Late Model division. For the past two years, the Late Model track record has fallen on Opening Night. We have also had three different Opening Night winners in the past three years. Former track champion and Southern 100 winner Eddie Carrier Jr. took the win in 2012, while West Union, Ohio’s Danial Kattine won in 2013, and defending co-track champion Jackie Boggs won last season.

There is perhaps more excitement surrounding this years Opening Night than any other Opening Night in the past. The excitement surrounds around the new purse structure and race format. The track has taken the purse for the $3,000 to win shows that had been held for the past several years, and added money throughout the field to make the purse $2,000 to win and $250 to start. The track also added a new twist with the Consolation Feature, a 10 lap race for drivers who have never won a feature at SOS that will pay $400 to win. The new Consolation Feature will give race fans double the excitement with two exciting Late Model features!

Modified Preview
There is plenty of excitement surrounding the Modified division as well for Opening Night. The Modified division will boast a higher purse this season as they will race for $750 to win and $140 to start. Consolation Features have also been brought to the Modified division as they have a 8 lap race for drivers that have never won a feature SOS that will pay $200 to win, making for two Modified features on Opening Night and every SOCS race!

Three time and defending track champion Jeremy Rayburn has won two Opening Night’s in the past three years. Jason Montgomery took the Opening Night win in 2013. It is sure to be an exciting night of racing in the Modified division!

Sport Mod Preview
The Sport Mod division has taken SOS by storm over the past three seasons with great car counts and some of the most exciting racing of each race night. Last year was a historic season for the class with Emily Jordan becoming the first female track champion in SOS history.

There is lots to be excited about again in 2015 for the Sport Mod class. The class looks to once again be healthy car count wise as nearly a full field of Sport Mods was in attendance at the Test N’ Tune. The competition is sure to be great as well with Emily Jordan looking for two consecutive track championships while a host of strong cars look to put their name as the track champion at the end of the year. Historically, Opening Night has been an important race for the Sport Mods as the Opening Night winner the past two seasons has went on to win the track championship (Danny Hamilton in 2013, Emily Jordan in 2014).

Times and Admission Prices
Gates will open at 4:00 pm on April 10th with drivers meeting set for 6:45 pm and hot laps set for 7:15 pm. Admission prices will remain the same as they have been since 2011 for races that boast a purse total as high as Opening Night (previously $3,000 to win, LM, $800 to win Mod shows, but now with the money spread more through the field).

General admission will be $15 (ages 17 and up), $5 (ages 13-16), $2 (ages 7-12), and FREE (ages 6 and under). Pit passes will be $30 (ages 13 and up), $20 (ages 7-12), and FREE (ages 6 and under).
