Palker, Berner & Moore Collect 2nd Wayne County Speedway Wins

After 3 weeks of rain outs, everybody was ready for some racing at NAPA Wayne County Speedway Saturday night on Hall’s Auto Sales and Southeastern Equipment night. Two time track champion Andrew Palker and Danny Mumaw brought the Fisher Performance Sprints to the green flag with Mumaw charging into the lead. As he started to encounter lapped cars on lap 8, Mumaw would get pinched into the turn one wall by a slower car and cut the right rear tire and would have to change it and go to the tail, putting Palker back into the lead with points leader Brad Haudenschild on his tail. With several cautions in the race with the last one coming on lap 21 for debris on the track, the red flag came out to allow for refueling only. But Haudenschild’s crew changed a tire and he was penalized to the tail. Palker of West Salem would pull away in the final four laps aboard the King Inspection, Albright Trucking and El Campesino Restaurent #57x for his second win this year as Jason Dolick finished second. Mumaw was 7th on the final restart and powered his way back up for a third place finish. 11th starting Jordon Harble took fourth as Russ Sansosti finished fifth. Shawn Hubler and Mitch Harble topped the heat races. Fast qualifier was Haudenschild.

For the Lias Tire Late Models, it would be the 7th race of the NAPA WCS/ Attica Raceway Park Late Model Series and Charlie Duncan and Keith Berner would start on the front row and they put on a race long battle for the lead with Corey Conley and Shane McLoughlin right behind the two front runners as they staged a battle for third. Duncan would be scored the leader of the first 20 laps but Berner snuck by at the line to claim lap 21 but Duncan was back in the lead on the next circuit before Berner and his Millersburg based Village Motors, Bud’s Place and Accu-Force Shocks #18 would secure the lead on lap 23. A caution with two laps to go bunched the field together but Berner kept the lead as Conley gave a charge on Duncan for second but came up short with McLoughlin taking fourth as Rocky Owens riding fifth. Ryan Markham, who was quick timer, JR Gentry and Berner won the heats. Rick Bond was the VP Fuels Hard Charger of the race as Berner (Hoosier) and McLoughlin (American Racer) won the tires.

For the second season in a row, Larry Baldwin of Randolph led every lap to win the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock Nationals presented by Richmond Gear Weekend Warrior and pocket the $1,000 winner share. Driving the Park Ford, Midas Muffler and Baldwin Motorsports #7up, Baldwin took the lead on the first lap from his 3rd starting spot with Bob Daugherty in his tire tracks. As the race wound down, Daugherty tried everyway he could to get past Baldwin but never was able to get by as Baldwin parked in victory lane for the 6th time this year. Matt Schroyer finished third with Nick Smith and Brandon Gardner filling out the top five. Fast Qualifier Baldwin, Schroyer and Smith notching the heat wins.

Brad Hensel of Wooster and his Sportsman’s Bar and DJ’s Directional Services went flag to flag to win his 6th WQKT Mini Stock feature of the season and expand his points lead. Doug Hensel ran race long in second with Adam Kern, Chris Shell and Elvis Conkle rounding out the top five. Heat winner Mitch Reichard brought out the red flag on lap two of the feature when he flew over the turn two guardrail and rolled over but was ok.

In a repeat from July 12, Matthew Moore of Granger Township had to battle off Tanner McLoughlin all race long before he could claim his second NAPA Mini Wedge win. Driving the Mars Trucking and Apache Auto Salvage #98, Moore won the heat race also. McLoughlin finished second for the third time this season as points leader Robbie Ledger was third followed by Jolene Voshel and Caitlin Johnson.

All drivers were not only competing for the regular purse money but vying for over $2,000 in weekly awards from the Contingency Connection program.

Another big night of racing is set for next Saturday night August 16th with the BOSS Wingless Sprints ALONG WITH the Fisher Performance Sprints, Lias Tire Late Models, Thrifty Muffler Super Stocks, WQKT Mini Stocks and the Napa Mini Wedges on the racing card.
