(Kerens, W.V. 5-31-14) A standing room only hillside gave Elkins Raceway one of the biggest crowds in recent memory. As fireworks filled the skies, there were a few on the track as well.

On Performance Motors night, there was extra moneys on the line in three classes, a great firework display, lots of giveaways, equal a lot of happy fans on the hill.

In the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models Billy Holbert and Tim Senic shared prelim honors. As the green flag flew Senic jumped to the point with Holbert, Cody Hardesty, Shane Hitt and Gary Dalton following in line. Hardesty slipped by Holbert for second on lap two. And after the green, white, checkered 35 lapper, Senic behind the wheel of the Roy’s RV Supercenter / Mach Excavating #S2, grabbed the $3,000 check. Hardesty, Holbert, Bob Gordon and Hitt filled out the top five.

A great field of 23 Budweiser FASTRAK cars signed in for the $2,000 winners payday. Shawn Jett, Daniel Hill and Kris Southern were heat victors. Jett lead the throng to green with Hill, Lauren Longbrake, Southern and Kyle Thomas quickly filling in the top five. With only two cautions slowing action early Hill pressured Jett but could not make a serious bid for the spot. On lap seven Thomas motored to third and tried to chase down the leaders. As the laps clicked off Jett was able to turn back Hill for the checkers. Jett piloting the Aluminum Service Center / Jett Racing #1JT finished ahead of Hill, Thomas, Longbrake and Southern.

The Fast ‘N Friendly Pharmacy Modifieds also were running for some extra dough. Front row starters Dave Defibaugh and Brent Trimble would battle throughout the entire distance. Defibaugh ws able to fend off Trimble as the two entered turn four on the final lap. Trimble made a last ditch effort to get under Defibaugh but he couldn’t make it stick. The car clipped a ute tire and set Trimble backward. Defibaugh in the Bob’s Mini Mart / D & B Enterprises #77 took the $750 first prize in his first win of the year. Vic Vandergrift, Robert Smith, James Nelson and Josh Revels rounded out the top five.

In the Miller’s Used Cars Street Stocks, Anthony Arbogast took the lead at the outset and never relinquished it. Arbogast driving the Miller’s Used Cars / C & JJ’s Used Cars #8A added his second checkerboard of the season. John Tallman Jr., Brian M<Itchell, Ryan Watson, and Spec Yokum were second through fifth.

Mitch Ward held off a pesky Ryan Harris and nipped him at the line to win the High Lines Oversize Load Escorting Mod Lites. Ward the defending class Champion, in his Ward Welding and Fabrication / Throw ‘N Dirt #862 won his first feature of the year.

This week at the Elkins Raceway it will be Friday Night Thunder brought to you by Hunter’s Haven. Plus autograph and picture night courtesy of Creative Learning Daycare.
