UNOH All Stars Head To NAPA Wayne County Speedway
3 min readCAMARGO, Ill. – The NAPA Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio can be considered as close to being the birthplace of the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions as any other track. When the series was launched in the early 1970s, Wayne County Speedway was one of the first tracks to host the All Stars. And, it continues this Saturday, May 31st presented by Whites Maibach Ford.
The UNOH All Stars will make the first of three appearances at the NAPA Wayne County Speedway – the others being during the Ohio Sprint Speedweek on Monday, June 23rd and the other on August 31st.
Coming into the Wayne County event, the UNOH All Stars have held 9 races with 9 different winners. Most recently during a double-header at Fremont Speedway Caleb Griffith and James McFadden scored their first career series wins.
Since reopening a few years ago, the NAPA Wayne County Speedway has steadily increased its 410 sprint car counts and the local teams are ready to challenge the invading All Stars. Among the drivers eager for Saturday event is Andrew Palker, who scored the 2012 and 2013 track championships at Wayne County and is touring with the All Stars in 2014. Palker currently sits sixth in the series’ national points and eighth in the Ohio Region standings.
There have been 3 events for the winged 410 sprints held in 2014 at Wayne County Speedway with Brad Haudenschild scoring back-to-back wins and most recently Broc Martin picking up the victory.
Last season Shane Stewart captured the All Star win at the NAPA Wayne County Speedway during the Ohio Sprint Speedweek with Cole Duncan picking up his first career series’ win in August. Duncan currently sits ninth in the All Star national points and fifth in the Ohio Region standings.
Four time series champion Dale Blaney sits atop the national point standings for the All Stars followed by four time series champion Tim Shaffer, Danny Holtgraver, Wayne County Speedway fan favorite Jac Haudenschild (1 win) and another four time series champion Chad Kemenah.
Another driver the Wayne County Speedway fans can’t wait to see challenge the UNOH All Stars is Lee Jacobs, great-grandson of the track’s founder. Lee scored his first UNOH All Star win a couple of weeks ago at the Lernerville Speedway and followed it up with a second place run the following night at Mercer Raceway Park. He currently is 8th in the series’ national standings and 4th in the Ohio Region.
When you talk about the Wayne County Speedway you can never overlook any driver with the last names of Jacobs or Haudenschild. Veteran Dean Jacobs – the grandson of Wayne County Speedway founder – to be a force to be reckoned with as will Jac Haudenschild’s son, Sheldon, who picked up two non-wing wins at the speedway in 2013.
Other Wayne County Speedway regulars who will present a challenge to the UNOH All Stars include Shawn Hubler, Jason Dolick, Jamie Myers, Danny Mumaw, Mitch Harble, Jimmy Pooler and more.
Besides the UNOH All Stars mentioned above, two young chargers have been impressive over the past couple of seasons in Caleb Helms and Trey Gustin.
The NAPA Wayne County Speedway has always attracted Western Pennsylvania competitors when the UNOH All Stars come to visit and Saturday should be no different.
