RoD and Tyler County Speedway Unveil Plans For 2014 “Let It Ride 55”
6 min read(Middlebourne,WV) The MALTA Windows and Doors Renegades of Dirt presented by Arizona Sport Shirts is excited to announced the plans for the 3rd running of the “Let It Ride 55” on May 22nd – 25th, 2014. An all-new format will greet drivers when they head to the “Bullring” for the Eastern U.S modified crown jewel this Memorial Day Weekend in the scenic state of West Virginia. The quarter mile dirt oval located in Middlebourne, WV will once again play host to the richest dirt modified event in the Eastern United States and one of the biggest events on the 2014 Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour season schedule.
Garnishing praise from some of dirt modifieds biggest names and media affiliates, including an annual multi-page review inside the Dirt Modified Magazine and featured a spot on the cover of the July 2013 issue, the “Let It Ride 55” has quickly become a must attend event for modified participants.
Established in 2012 as part of inaugural Renegade of Dirt Tour season featuring a $5,000 to win purse that saw fifty entries battle at the “Bullring” before Zanesville, OH’s Rick Aukland claimed the prestigious inaugural win, the “Let It Ride 55” immediately made its mark on modified racing. In 2013 the tour returned to the Tyler County Speedway but up’d the ante paying the second annual victor $7,555 to win which saw a RoDT record sixty entries in competition. When the checkered waved on the event it was Mooresville, NC’s Nick Hoffman who would take the largest win of his successful career and Ischua, NY native Rich Michael took home the events Non-Qualifier Feature.
In 2014 the “Let It Ride 55” is back in a big way! The third annual event will introduce a complete format OVERHAUL, from one feature in two days to FOUR features in three days of racing action! Thus, for the first time in it’s short history the Memorial Day Weekend special will showcase more than just one A-Main giving the fans four times the dirt modified action. The new format will give the racers more chances to take home a memorable win as well as several opportunity at the outstanding weekend purse.
This year’s participants will have the opportunity to enter in a preliminary warm up night of action, a twin feature night that will allow for forty different racers to make an A-Main, and an alphabet soup evening of events on Sunday before crowning the winner of the 3rd Annual “Let It Ride 55”!
On Thursday night racers will get a chance to dial in their rides for the weekend utilizing an evening long open practice session that is immediately followed by the famous pit party festivities. On Friday racers will saddle up for the first night of action that will feature an all new preliminary night $1,000 to win, $100 to start 25 Lap main event open to any competitor that pre-enters for the “Let It Ride 55” prior to May 1st. If you do not pre-enter or have 100% participation with the tour prior to the event you will not be allowed to compete in Friday nights prelim. Early registration for the event will begin on December 2nd and can be turned in by mailing an official 2014 event entry form along with the $125 advance entry fee into the EDGE at P.O. Box 475, Middlebourne, WV 26149.
Saturday night will showcase a familiar format to Tyler County Speedway fans utilizing the twin feature/qualifier format (aka. Black Diamond Format). Participants will be split into two groups at the beginning of the night based on qualifying and will run all events that evening with only those in their group. Each group will heat race, last chance race, and run a $1200 to win, $120 to start “Let It Ride 25” qualifier event. The top six finishers in each qualifying feature will transfer straight into Sunday’s Finale with the top four from each redrawing (1-8) for starting spots in a $255 to win eight lap “Dash For Cash” that will set the starting lineup (1-8) for the “Let It Ride 55”. Cars finishing 7th – 12th in each qualifying feature will transfer directly into Sunday’s B-Main event, cars finishing 13th – 18th will transfer directly into Sunday’s C-Main event. Rounding out Sunday’s “Alphabet Soup” format will be two D-Main events for the non-transfers from Saturday nights racing program and an E-Main if needed. Both D-Main events will transfer four cars to the C-Main, with the C-Main transferring six cars to the B-Main, then six cars from the B-Main will transfer into the A-Main. Two provisionals will be awarded for the event, a “Let It Ride 55” qualifier and a Renegade of Dirt high points provisional. When the twenty one car A-Main field rolls out on Sunday evening after a weekend of hard work they will be gunning for a possible $7,555 finale prize, the highly coveted five foot trophy that features a one of a kind working slot machine at the top, the famous winners check, and a plethora of media publicity for the rest of the season.
“We are excited to introduce the new format, we can’t help but think it will increase the events car count as well as give the fans a lot more great racing action” stated Watson. “The event has shown solid growth and is becoming very nationally recognized. We hope this will take it to the next level as we work towards making this a race Eastern modified drivers can rally around like other national modified races across the country” added Watson. “There will be four features, guaranteed multiple winners, a possible $7,555 to win finale, $720 to start three features, and XSAN Live Online Streaming….the event truly has something for every racer” concluded Watson.
