Kyle Purdy Scores Twice on Rent-2-Own Night at the Races
4 min read(Peebles, OH) The four cylinder stock class known as the Crazy Compacts usually is not in the spotlight of a race night, but on Saturday August 17th Rent-2-Own, Darren Arey Repair and Hawes Racing pulled together to give the Crazy Compacts a “Big Money” night! There were two full features for the Crazy Compacts starting with the 20 Lap Rent-2-Own Big 20 Dash for Cash and then the Darren Arey Repair invert Challenge presented by Hawes Racing. A full show of all regular classes was also on tap for Aug. 17th racing program. The final night of summer for local school students rolled in as the action heated up on Rent-2-Own Night at the Races!
The Rent-2-Own Big 20 Dash for Cash was the first feature event to hit the track. 2013 Crazy Compact point leader Randy Johnson and Jesse Mick lead the $250 to win race to the green flag. Kyle Purdy in his 7P car had trouble getting around Randy Johnson in Heat race number one but in the feature he made short work of Johnson. Kyle Purdy jumped out early and never looked back. Kyle Purdy picked up the 2nd annual Rent-2-Own Big 20 Dash for Cash followed by Randy Johnson, Jesse Mick, Tommy Stout, and Austin King.
The Southern Ohio Lightning Mini-Sprints rolled out next with Keith Baxter and Gene Wills leading the field. Chris Smalley had to start at the tail due to not running his heat race but as the race progressed he started to work his way up. In the closing laps Smalley found himself running second to Keith Baxter. As Smalley started to work on Baxter, Baxter’s number 4 car started to slow on the back stretch giving the lead to Chris Smalley! Smalley lead to the checkered flag followed by Chris Hawk, Jay Helton, Gene Wills, and Tom Johnson.
The PF2 Trucking Sport Mods hit the track after the Mini-Sprint Victory Lane celebrations ended. Daniel Hamilton has won EVERY Sport Mod feature he started in 2013 at Brushcreek up to August 17th. At the drop of the Green Flag 15 year old Chris Shelton Jr followed Daniel Hamilton as Hamilton pulled away. Hamilton was on his way to win again until he unexpectedly slowed down the front stretch bringing out the caution. This Put 15 year old Chris Shelton Jr in the spot to win his first ever Sport Mod race. Shelton powered to the checkered flag winning the race followed by Brad McGlone, Steve Cruse, Harrison Hall and Weston Crosby.
Next up was the Modified division. Dave Jamison won the heat race and didnt look back in the feature picking up another win in 2013 followed by Shaun Scott, Adam Stricker, Joe Brewer and John Baker. Adam Stricker made his Modified start continuing a multi-generation racing family. Adam’s grandfather is Joe Stricker, car owner of the first World 100 winner Bruce Gould! The racing world will have its eyes on Adam Stricker over the next few years.
Late Models followed Modifieds in the running order. Chris Shannon won the heat and won the feature in convincing fashion over Rob Starkey, Dillon Huron, Mark Morrison and Paul Moore. The Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Cars were next on the card or racing. Jerren Perdue and Steve Duderstadt were on the front row because of heat race wins. At the drop of the green Perdue jumped out front with a hornets nest of drivers behind him. The Battle continued throughout the race but some front runners had some issues mixing up the order of finish. Steven Partin was caught up in a wreck with Dustin Crago and Steve Duderstadt has motor troubles late. Jerren Perdue won his 4th feature of 2013 followed by Derek Minshew, Josh Francis, John Gutman and Steven Partin.
The final event of the night was the Darren Arey Repair Invert Challenge presented by Hawes Racing. Kyle Purdy won the first feature in the night which meant he had to start last in the Invert Challenge. Kyle Purdy got caught up in traffic but he worked through it as the race ran on. Kyle Purdy put on a show in a dominating fashion once again boosting his nights winnings to $450! Brushcreek Motorsports Complex’s next race is School Colors Night, Saturday August 24th. Wear your college or High School apparel and get in HALF OFF! There is also a LAWN MOWER DERBY along with a FULL racing program! Cruise Control Extreme TV will be at BMC documenting Harrison Hall, a Sport Mod Racer, this Saturday as well! Harrison is donating all of their winnings from 2013 the Children’s Dream Racer, a charity that takes racing simulators to children’s hospitals for the kids to enjoy while getting treatment.
