After a long winter and wet Spring featuring cooler than usual temps, the Ohio Valley Speedway swung the gates open on the 64th Season to a beautiful evening for racing action and great crowd. Picking up Opening Night wins and visiting the KMA Auto Victory Lane were Kyle Thomas, Cole Perine, Kendall Hodge, Chris Dyer, Bryson Long and Mack Brookover.

A terrific Las Trancas Super Late Model main event would see Pennsboro, WV’s Kyle Thomas and Parkersburg’s Colten Burdette put on a show swapping the lead back and forth. Thomas would blast out to the early lead with Burdette glued to his tail. At the race mid-point Burdette would ease by Thomas for the race lead and appear poised for the top spot. Thomas would then regroup and begin reeling Burdette back in running some of his best laps of the race and blasting around Burdette on the top side to seize the lead with 5 to go. Once back up front, Thomas would hold off Burdette to score the main event aboard the Powell & Son Farm/ Hyre Well & Pump/ Pizza Box/ Pit Crew Garage/Jenkins/ Ed Wilson Mobile Homes/ Dodd’s Sporting Goods/ Thomas & AJ Logging/ Punisher Chassis. Following Thomas across the line was Burdette, Harold Redman Jr., Ed Shuman and William Rose.

A stout field of 23 UMP Modifieds would square off with In the Polymer Services UMP Modified division with Cole Perine besting the field to pick up the first win of the season. At the start it was the ‘Southside Flyer’ looking poised to bring home the bacon when disaster would strike the early leader as the veteran lost the handle in turn four bringing out the Carr & Antill Caution Flag. Perine would now take the point and roll to victory aboard the Brandon Perine owned Perine Bros. Trucking/ NAPA Auto Parts/ AWL Trucking/ BKB Trucking/ Quicktime Performance/ Kryptonite RaceCars/ Marietta Joint & Clutch Kryptonite Chassis. Chasing Lowell, Ohio’s Perine across the line was defending track champion Coleman Evans, rallying from the tail to 3rd was Kenny Johnson, Vince Conrad, and former Sportmod racer Brandon McGrady

In the Pike Street Lanes Sportmod feature event it was a terrific battle between the top three cars as Brandon Patton, Kendall Hodge and Matt Fizer would wage war for 15 laps. Patton would set the tone and lead lap after lap with Hodge glued to his bumper and Fizer nipping at both drivers heels. You could throw a blanket over the top three at times. Hodge would make his winning move on the last lap as Patton and Hodge would throw it into turns 3 and 4 with Hodge gaining the slim advantage exiting turn 4. As the duo dragged down the front stretch it was the ‘Flattop Flyer’ Kendall Hodge nipping a game Brandon Patton across the line for the win and trip into the KMA Auto Victory Lane. Following Davisville, WV’s Kendall Hodge to victory was Brandon Patton, Matt Fizer, Nic Green and Montana Legg.

Chris Dyer would park his 8D machine in the KMA Auto Victory Lane to kick off the 2022 season in the Bill’s Auto Salvage SCDRA 4 Cylinder feature event. Following Dyer to the pay window was Josh Ayers, Adam Miller, Joe Price and Ted Dille.

Kicking off the evening was the ‘Youth League of Auto Racing’ and the kids of the WRA Mini Wedges. Bryson Long would make history as the first official racer to park on the newly constructed KMA Auto Victory Lane at Ohio Valley Speedway in the WRA Rookie division. Following Long was Cruz Thomas and Easton Mayle rounding out the top three. In the Veteran division it was Mack Brookover picking up where he left off last year and securing the win over Colin Knox and James Bailey.
