Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Heads to Ohio for Two Events
5 min readWAYCROSS, GA (June 27, 2013) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will have a rare weekend off before a two-race swing through the Buckeye State of Ohio next week. The premier national tour for super late models will celebrate the July 4th holiday with two big events next week at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH for the “Budweiser 50” on Wednesday Night, July 3rd followed by a trip south to Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH on Thursday Night, July 4th.. There will be a complete show each night for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and a 50-lap feature event paying $10,000 to win and $800 to start at both tracks.
The trip to Muskingum County Speedway will mark the only event the Ronnie Moran-promoted facility will run in 2013. As always, the LOLMDS event at Muskingum County Speedway will be highlighted by the area’s largest fireworks display. In the series eight appearances at the facility, there have been eight different winners. Don O’Neal, who is currently fourth in the series championship points standings, won the series’ first appearance at the track in 2005. Since then, the winners of the LOLMDS event at Muskingum County Speedway include: Steve Shaver (2006); Steve Casebolt (2007); Dan Schlieper (2008); Jason Covert (2009); Earl Pearson Jr. (2010); Scott Bloomquist (2011) and last year’s winner Steve Francis. Pit Gates for the “Budweiser 50” will open at 2 PM with general admission gates opening at 4 PM. A drivers autograph session is scheduled at 5 PM till 5:45 PM, with racing scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. Support classes running with the LOLMDS on Wednesday July 3rd include the McHugh Dodge Jeep Modifieds, Denny’s Classic Diner Pure Stocks and the Creno’s Pizza 4- Cylinders. The second leg of the two race swing through the state of Ohio for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be at Donna Rayburn’s Portsmouth Raceway Park on Thursday July 4th. This event is sponsored by The Body Shop Physical Therapy of Vanceburg, KY. This event will mark the 10th time the series has competed at PRP. The LOLMDS will visit PRP two more times in 2013 with a visit in August and the season finale the 2013 RED BUCK Dirt Track World Championship – Presented by Borrowed Blue. Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champions, Jimmy Owens and Scott Bloomquist have each won twice at Portsmouth Raceway Park, with Owens winning in 2009 and 2012, while Bloomquist won twice in 2011. Other series winners at PRP include: Steve Francis (2007); Josh McGuire (2008); Earl Pearson Jr. (2010); Dale McDowell (2010) and Jackie Boggs (2012). Pit Gates at PRP will open at 2 PM with general admission gates opening at 4 PM and racing scheduled to start at 7:30 PM. Support classes scheduled to run with the LOLMDS include the RW Rental and Supply Modifieds and the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Late Models.
