The first ever ICON Memorial Tour featuring the Late Models and the Renegades of Dirt Modifieds presented by Weekly Electric pulled into NAPA Wayne County Speedway on White-Maibach Ford night as Wooster’s Doug Drown, in the Weekly Electric, Wooster Glass and DJ Directional Services #63, led all the way to win the Late Model Freedom Fighters 40 as Jared Miley made a run at Drown during the last five laps of the race following the race’s only caution flag on lap 35. Miley passed fast qualifier Donnie Moran on the restart for second as Keith Berner finished fourth after running second the first half of the race. Keith Barbara rounded out the top five. JR Gentry won the dash and Miley and Charlie Duncan were the heat winners and Larry Bellman topped the last chance race.

Before the first lap of the Modified main was in the books, Kyle Strickler spun out giving up his pole position to Tanner Wilson who would lead the way for the first four laps but then it was Hanover’s Kevin Morehouse and the Ports Petroleum, Morehouse Logging and Sam’s Used Cars #r88 taking over and he would cruise to the win. Jesse Wisecarver, who started the night off by setting a new track record (18.866) would out duel Rick Aukland for second as Corey Conley edged past Wilson for fourth. Strickler, Wilson and Morehouse notched the heat wins as Kevin Miller scored the last chance win. For a complete recap of these two races, go to www.edgeconnect.co or www.renegadesofdirt.com

Bryce Dickson took the lead from Chris Myers on the second lap of the Fisher Performance Sprint feature and put some distance between Myers, Dzugan Fire & Rescue Fast Qualifier Andrew Palker, Broc Martin, Mitch Harble and Danny Mumaw. Myers would go flying off the track on lap six as he got off the back side of the straightaway, went into the pits and came back out on the track. He would spend the rest of the race working his way through the field and finish fifth. Dickson would start to build up a lead on the restart but when he jumped the cushion in turn two on lap 15, Martin, Palker and Mumaw jumped ahead of him and as they ran three wide, Martin would collide with a retaining tire in turn four to end his night. Palker, of Lodi, would then use his King Inspection, Albrecht Trucking and El Campesino Restaurent #57x to hold off a late charge by Danny Mumaw, who was driving the #38k, and pocket his first win of the season. Mitch Harble and Dickson went back and forth for third with Harble winning out. Palker, Martin and Mumaw notched the heat wins as Pete Grove captured the last chance win.

Kyle Dickinson, Kyle Moore and Brad Eagle won the heat races for the Thrifty Muffler Super Stocks but it was Dzugan Fire & Rescue Fast Qualifier Larry Baldwin drawing the #1 pill to start on the pole and he would drive the #7UP into victory lane for the first time this year. Dickinson, Eagle and Jeremy Lynch put early pressure on Baldwin but a flat tire for Dickinson and Eagle and Lynch spinning out on different laps stopped their chances. A red flag for Tyler Nicely’s car catching on fire on the last lap would give Bob Daugherty a last chance run on Baldwin, but as they were in turn four with the checkered flag waving, Daugherty spun and the field got around him with little contact with Brandon Gardner getting second as Brandon Craver claimed third with Tony Cline and Allan Baker rounding out the top five. Kelly Kaufmann secured the last chance win.

Wooster’s Doug Hensel went flag to flag to tally his second WQKT Mini Stock feature of the season. Two time winner Jason Shaw pestered Hensel, who also won the heat race, early on but his car began to sputter and Mitch Reichard picked up the challenge on Hensel but never got the lead. Lester Berry finished third as Randy Gibson took fourth with Jeff Barker claiming fifth. The race ended two laps short of the 10 laps scheduled when Shaw’s car came to a stop on the front stretch leaving a big puddle of oil on the track.
Tanner McLoughlin likes the short Mini Wedge track as he won the heat race and lead all the way for his third victory of the year aboard the Zanesville based, McLoughlin Used Cars #59. Logan Duncan takes home second for the fourth straight time as Brooke Dawson finished third followed by the #73x and Matthew Moore grabbing fifth.

The next action at NAPA Wayne County Speedway will come on Monday, June 24th for the Duffy Smith Memorial featuring the UNOH All Star Sprint Speedweek show with the Lias Tire Late Model in action also. For more information, go to the website at www.waynecountyspeedway.com
