On Driver’s Autograph night at Hilltop Speedway, all six feature winners signed back into victory circle for at least the second time this season. Scott Peltz won the dash for the Holmes Tire Late Models but it was outside front row starter George Lee grabbing the point at the drop of the green with Peltz in second as three caution flags in the opening six laps kept the pace slowed up. Once the race stayed green, Lee and his LSI, Cowen Truck Line, and Mudslinger Coffee #61 would pull away from the field as Peltz, Ryan Markham, Charlie Duncan, and Dzugan Fire & Rescue fast qualifier JR Gentry would go side by side, nose to tail for second. Lap 14 would see Peltz start to slip back as a tire was losing pressure and he would pull off three laps later with Markham, Gentry, Duncan and Dave Hornikel now vying for second. With five to go and Lee of Loudonville well on his way to his second win of the season, Markham took control of second with Gentry holding off Duncan for third as Hornikel claimed his first top five of the year and his first heat win as did Justin Patterson.
Warsaw’s Norm Aronhalt picked up the dash win and then went flag to flag to win his second feature of the year in the Raceday Photo Modified main. Driving the Service Welding, Dari Hut, and B & B Vinyl Designs #309 would hold off early challenges from quick timer Jimmy Smith and Matt Samples until mechanical issues stopped Smith and a flat tire for Samples at the halfway mark. Using the high line, Aronhalt would stretch his lead out as John Sluka, Brandon Morrow and Rick Mardis in the last half of the feature. Sluka and Morrow went back and forth for second with Sluka winning that battle at the checker flag with Mardis pocketing fourth over Beau Bradley. Bradley and Morrow topped the heats.
Bob Chilcote, Matt Shroyer and Ryan Wisecarver posted the heat wins for the Street Stocks and Shroyer of Coshocton would jump into the lead at the drop of the green flag and drive the Service Welding #15s to his second straight win. John Wilson started 14th and had worked his way into third behind Wisecarver on lap eight as those two and Bob Daugherty and Chilcote all were bunched together. With two to go, Daugherty slipped past Wilson for third and on the white flag lap, edged past Wisecarver for second. Kyle Dickinson, who started 19th, passed Chilcote on the last lap for fifth.
Loudonville’s Jordan James and his Lochevale Farms, Loudonville Tire, and Activewear #83 won the second heat race to start on the outside pole and led all the way to collect his fourth Thompson’s Garage Mini Stock win of the year. Third heat winner Jason St. John finished second as he with stood runs by Gary Hensel Jr. and Brad Hensel as James Priebe capturing fifth. Billy Parsons won the first heat.
Warsaw’s Cole Lillibridge and John Large secured the heat wins to start on the front row of the Bugs-R-Gone Trucks and Lillibridge would sprint out to the lead and never look back to post his fourth win of the season aboard the family owned #52. Large would be pestered by Kevin Potts for second and with five circuits to go, Potts finally squeezed by to gain second ad Large finished third with David Potts and Rolly Heyder filling out the top five.
Blake Morris and Tristen Brown have dueled for wins in the Mike’s Service Mini Wedges and it was no different tonight as Morris of Zanesville gave the lead up on lap four to Brown but came back on the next lap to regain the point and then close it out with his third win of the season aboard the Morris Trucking #1. Taylor Huggins , Aiden Fritter and Logan Duncan rounded out the top five. The second main would see Livia Large of Warsaw winning over Hannah Rose, Zoe Stafford, Kyla Dillon and Brayden Renfrew. Heat wins went to Morris, Fritter and Destinie Bates, who at the end of the 1st main, would hit a tire at high speed nose first, She was transported to the hospital to be checked out and was back at the track before the races were finished.
Regular racing with the Modlites returning is on the schedule for Saturday, June 1st at Hilltop with racing starting at 7:30 pm.
