STRONGSTOWN, PA (May 27, 2019) – Jeff Sweeney, of Marion Center, captured the Steel Block Late Model Special Monday night. Cody Shultz won the Jim St. John Memorial for Vintage Modifieds while Brad Benton picked up his second straight in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks. In Micro Sprint action, Johnstown’s Jim Young won the 600cc with Brian Borawiec, Jr. taking the 270cc feature. DuBois’ Josh Frantz won the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinders and Bryant Matthew won the Rookie 4’s. The show was run Monday night after being canceled on Sunday.

21 Steel Blocks took to the track for the 25 Lap Special. Tim Krape took the initial led at the drop of the green. Krape, an occasional visitor to the track, pulled away from the pack. Krape crossed the line on lap eight and a huge smoke screen poured out from under the #07 ending his night. This handed the lead over to Rick Singleton. Singleton started eighth and looked like a sure winner. Jeff Sweeney had other ideas in the caution filled race. Sweeney caught him on lap19 and made the winning pass on lap 21. Sweeney went on to capture the checkered flag over Singleton, Rick Wicker, John Wayne Weaver and Shane Nihart. Sixth thru tenth were Larry Hollenbaugh, Jarid Ivory, Bernie Whetstone, Jr., Joe Moyer and Mark Rend. Scoring heat wins were Joe Moyer, Larry Hollenbaugh and Rick Singleton.

In the 15-lap Jim St. John Memorial for Vintage Modifieds it was all Cody Shultz. Shultz led every lap in dominating the field. Steve Longo was second over Fred Hilenbrand, Paul St. John, and Bobby Coles. Shultz won the heat also.

Newcomer Shawn Hadden led the opening laps of the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinder feature. Lap two saw sixth starting Josh Frantz take the lead. The Dubois driver held on for the final 11 laps to take the win. Jeff Huber, Hadden, Chuck Dizzle, Cory Stanley, Brooks Kaufman, Joe Huber, Cory Price, Todd Davis and Dylan Burkett competed the top ten. Qualifying heats were won by Justin Williamson, Shawn Hadden and Jeff Huber.

Duncansville’s Brad Benton led all 15 laps to score his second straight win in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks. Benton won by a comfortable margin over Josh Ferry, Greg Blystone, Joe Kephart and Marc Whetstone (driving the Rielly #22). Benton won the lone heat.

Pole sitter Brian Borawiec, Jr. took off at the start of the 15 laps 270cc Micro Sprint feature. Todd Reusser chased the high flying Borawiec but could not muster a solid challenge to settle for second over JT Horwatt, Garth Fochler and Ivan Johnson. Borawiec and Reusser won the two heats.

Jimmy Young, from Johnstown, blew the field away in the 15 lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature. Young started third and quickly took the lead never looking back. Ryan Fredericks was second over Darick Humenay. Young also won the heat.

Bryant Matthew won the heat to start on the pole in Rookie 4 feature. Matthew looked like he was going to run away in feature. Tyler Ulsh started to come on and actually pulled ahead of Matthew but the two banged off each other in turn four. This allowed Matthew to pull ahead and take his first win. Tyler Ulsh and Audra Zernick.
