Michaels Mercer Raceway Ready To Try Grand Opening Again This Saturday May 11
3 min read(Mercer, PA May 8, 2019): Will the third time be the charm? After two postponements due to wet grounds and and rain, respectively, Edward Michaels hopes that he will be able to complete the Grand Opening at Michaels Mercer Raceway this Saturday, May 11. Racing action for the Fast Five will begin at 7 p.m.
“We have had tremendous support from the racers so far,” Michaels explained. “Now, we just need some cooperation with the weather man.”
Rex King, Jr. wants to regain the momentum in his first race run under the sponsorship of Diehl Ram, of Grove City. A few weeks back, he won the Chiller Thriller for the Big Block Modifieds for the third time in his career. That was the only program completed at the speedway in 2019.
Jimmy Holden chased King Jr. in the final stages of that contest after inheriting the second spot from Rex King, Sr., who suffered a flat rear tire. Lonny Riggs, another 358 Modified stand-out, will be on hand, along with several other pilots familiar to Mercer fans. J.R. McGinley, Kyle Fink, Kevin Hoffman, Garrett Krummert, Richard Whitney, and Kevin Green have all made the transition to the Big Blocks. Other former winners like Jeremiah Shingledecker and Dave Murdick will challenge for the top honors.
Krummert will be doing double duty again, as he will also race his Fastrack Limited Modified. Steve Slater, Jerry and Will Shaffer, and Jessica Kriegisch will also be in action with rest of the Turn 4 Toilet Rentals crew.
Jacob Gomola will lead the Racesaver 305 Sprint Cars to the post. He claimed the first win under the twin banners of Hards Welding and Fabrication and River Valley Butcher Block. Greg Dobrosky may have something to say about that, though. Those racers, and others, will provide the winged Sprint fans something to cheer about.
It will be hard to keep up with the Joneses in the Barris Trucking Modified Lites. There will be three of them in the field, led by first-time winner Vivian Jones. Her brother Roman and her father Rod would like to hold a family reunion in Victory Lane. Nearly two dozen other racers will be looking to spoil that party.
Can Todd Hanlon repeat in the Ray’s Racing Collectibles and Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking Mini Stocks? Tim Callahan was nipping on his heels when he goat a flat during the Chiller Thriller. Those veteran racers will be competing with twenty-odd other hungry drivers for the biggest slice of the pie.
The pit gates will open at 4 p.m. for the racers and the front gates will open at 5 p.m. for the spectators. Practice sessions will start at 6:30 and the first heat race will hit the track at 7 p.m.
Regular event ticket pricing will apply. Adult admission to the stands will be just $12, and seniors (60+) will be admitted for $10. Children and youths (ages 13 and under) will be free if they are accompanied by a paying guest. Pit passes will be $30. However, reduced price Pit Passes will be available for seniors (60+) and children (ages ten and under). They will be admitted to the pits for $25.
