Southern Ohio Speedway May 24th Preview

WHEELERSBURG, OH-A big night of racing is in store at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, May 24th for the “Robinson’s Auto Sales & Parts Memorial Day Championships.”  In addition to the originally scheduled $2,000 to win Late Model special, rainouts the past two Fridays have moved the “Robinson’s Auto Sales & Parts Sport Mod Championships”, “Legends Night”, and “DARF Night” all to May 24th.

Late Model Preview
Extra money will be on the line on Friday in the Late Model division with the “Memorial Day Championships.”  The nights 25 lap Late Model feature will pay $2,000 to win with $1,000 going to second and $700 to third.  Jackie Boggs won the Memorial Day Championships Late Model special last season by making a late race pass over Eddie Carrier Jr.  This season there have been five different winners in five Late Model races.  Only one Late Model feature this season has gone without a lead change.  R. J. Conley is the current Late Model points leader.

Modified Preview
The action this season in the Modified division has been incredible as well.  In five races, there have been a total of 4 different winners.  The racing action each and every week has been intense and is expected to be the same on Friday.  Last year’s track champion Jeremy Rayburn currently holds a 75 point lead over Brian Skaggs in second and a 90 point lead over Doug Adkins in third.

GCP Engines Sport Mod presented by Tomahawk Race Cars Preview
Friday’s “Robinson’s Auto Sales & Parts Sport Mod Championship” will be the first ever special event for the Sport Mod division.  The Sport Mod division has grown leaps and bounds this season with an average car count of 21.  With extra money on the line, Friday’s show is sure to be a good one in what has turned into the classes largest division car count wise.  Danny Hamilton has won two races in the class this year and is the points leader heading into Friday’s races.  The points battle in the Sport Mod division has been incredible as the top five are only seperated by 35 points while the top ten are only seperated by 75 points.

Pure Stock Preview
Barry Brister has been the man to beat thus far in the Pure Stock division as he has won all four races.  This class is continuing to grow as the highest car count of the season is expected on Friday.

Legends Night Activities
With Legends Night getting canceled last Friday, it has been moved to this Friday, May 17th.  After time trials, all retired racers who have competed at SOS in the past will be asked to come up to the base of the flagstand to be honored.  Track announcer Chuck Greenslate will do a brief interview with each driver.

DARF Night
All members of DARF will be admitted into general admission for $5 by providing proper ID at the ticket gate on Friday.

Times and Admission Prices
Gates will open on Friday at 4:00 pm with hot laps scheduled for 7:30 pm.  General admission is $12 for ages 17 and up, $5 for ages 13-16, $2 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under.  Pit passes are $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under.  For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.
