Bish, Powell, Clark, Surra Get Crowned 2018 Thunder Mountain Champions
5 min readKnox Dale- As the sun went down over the mountain, the Off Road Speedway Series started the night off with hot laps of ATVs,UTVs, and other classes following. The first feature of the evening were the Chad Lilley Septic Services Street Stocks. Rusty Martz and Bruce Hartzfeld mace up the front row for twenty laps. On the start, Martz took the early lead as Hartzfeld, Bish, Hurrelbrink ran 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Tim Bish and Bill Hurrelbrink would battle for third as Gary Luzier and Dale Yeaney battled for fifth. Luzier would take the fifth position and reel in Bish to do battle for fourth. Bill Hurrelbrink reeled in Bruce Hartzfeld for second before Hartzfeld slowed going into turns three and four. Under caution, Ray Hickok Jr who had a good run going, goes pit side. On the restart, Martz would shoot out to the lead as Bish took over the second place position. Luzier and Yeaney would go door to door for fourth for a few laps. As the laps started to count down, Tim Bish was driving the wheels off of his car trying to catch the fast moving Rusty Martz. At the end, it was Rusty Martz who led all twenty laps to pick up the street stock feature win. Marta was followed by Tim Bish, Bill Hurrelbrink, Gary Luzier, Dale Yeaney, Bob Agley, Mike Miller, Jim Bloom, Bob Rosman, Cregen Brady, Jason Longwell, Ray Hickok Jr, Bruce Hartzfeld, Chris Schneider, and Andy Thompson. Heat winners were Rusty Martz and Bruce Hartzfeld. The 2018 Thunder Mountain Street Stock Champion goes to the 11B of Tim Bish.
Second feature of the night were the Legends Powersports Super Late Models. Jon Lee and Chad McClellan made up the front row for twenty five laps. On the green, Lee would take the early lead before a caution in turn one would come out to bunch the field up. On the restart, Lee rockets to the lead as McClellan ran in second. Mike Maresca in the 7MM reeled in McClellan for second. Fans got to see the “Battle of the M’s” as The 7M and 7MM battled for second for a few laps before the 7MM of Maresca took over the second position. Joe Petyak and Bryan Bernheisel raced door to door for fifth as Colbey Frye in the 0F moved up high to reel in Bernheisel. Charlie Powell in the 94, who was running fourth, started to reel in McClellan for third as Mike Maresca reeled in Lee for the lead in lap traffic. Marisa would take the lead out of turn two as McClellan passes Lee for second in lap traffic. Matt Lux and Bryan Bernheisel go door to door out of turn two for seventh before Lux slowed on the backstretch. The second restart seen Maresca take the lead as Powell moved into second. Jon Lee would battle Powell for second before he slowed on the front stretch. Powell would race away with second as Nate Smith slowed on the front stretch to go pit side. Joe Petyak ran in third as Frye and Bernheisel ran fourth and fifth. At the end, it was Mike Maresca picking up another $1,400 pay day for his feature win. Maresca was followed by, Charlie Powell, Joe Petayk, Colbey Frye, Bryan Bernheisel, Skip Lindemuth, Del Rougeux, Joe Moyer, Dan Stormer, Nate Smith, Jon Lee, Chad McClellan, Matt Lux, Johnny Lindenpitz, Scott Stein, and Jamie Barber. Colton Flinner was a DNS. Heat winners were Chad McClellan, Jon Lee, and Mike Maresca. The 2018 Thunder Mountain Super Late Model Champion goes to the 94 of Charlie Powell.
The Bubba’s Racing Supply Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinders were third on the line up for the evening. Curtis Mohney and Joe Huber made up the front row for fifteen laps. On the start, Mohney took the early lead as Joe Huber ran second and DJ Clark moved into third. A few laps later, Sam Orf Jr moved into fourth as Clark passes Huber for second. Chad Greeley in the 27 worked his way up in the field as he goes door to door with Clark for second. Greeley would take over the second position and set his sights on Mohney. At the end, it was Curtis Mohney picking up the Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinder feature win. Mohney was followed by, Chad Greeley, Joe Huber, Sam Orf Jr, DJ Clark, Jeff Huber, Cory Price, Greg Kiehl, and Austin Fedder. Ryan Lippert was a DNS. Heat winners were Curtis Mohney and Joe Huber. The 2018 Thunder Mountain Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinder Champion goes to the 7 of DJ Clark.
The last feature of the evening were the Windstream Semi Late Models. Joe Martin and Doug Surra made up the front row for twenty laps. Surra would take the early lead as Martin ran in second. Tommy Kronenwetter ran in third as the 711 of Todd English reeled him in for the position. Nick Fulmer in the 2F ran in fifth as Nate Snyder in the 155 and John Wayne Weaver in the W3 battled for seventh. Martin and Surra raced door to door for the lead as English and Fulmer battled it out for fourth. English would take over the fourth position before Kronenwetter battled for the third position. English would move into third before a caution came out for the backstretch. On the restart, English raced to second as Martin took the lead. Fans got a real treats Martin and English had a dog fight for the lead. English would take the lead before a caution came out for turn two. ON the second restart, Martin dove low in turn one to take the lead back. At the end, it was Joe Martin who held on to win another Semi Late Model feature. Martin was followed by, Todd English, Tommy Kronenwetter, Nick Fulmer, Rich Wicker, John Weaver, Jim Challingsworth, Ryan Caldwell, Joe Becker, Doug Surra, and Nate Snyder. Heat winners were Joe Martin and Doug Surra. The 2018 Thunder Mountain Semi Late Model Champion goes to the 3AA of Doug Surra.
The Off Road Speedway Series had two features for their ATV and UTV classes. Josh Brown picked up the ATV feature win as Joe Scugoza picked up the UTV win. Heat winners were Josh Brown (ATV) and Bill Vancuren (UTV).
