Michael Lake Celebrates Dog Hollow’s 20th Anniversary Race With $5,000 Win
4 min readSTRONGSTOWN, PA (July 28, 2018) – Dog Hollow Speedway celebrated it’s 20th Anniversary with a $5000 to Win ULMS Late Model Special. Uniontown’s Michael Lake parked his #27 in the winners circle for the third time this season and picked up a $5000 paycheck to go with it. Centerville’s Max Blair won for the second time in the RUSH Crate Late Models while Jon Lee, of Mahaffey, won his sixth 358 Semi Late feature. Duke Davidson also won his sixth in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks with first time visitor Brad Beatty winning the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinders. The Rookie 4’s went to JT Matney.
The record will show Michael Lake led all 50-laps in the ULMS Series Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model feature. It was not an easy win as he, and first-time visitor Tyler Bare (Rockbridge Bath, VA), battled most of the race for the top spot. Several cautions slowed the early portion of the race before they were able to string a bunch of green flag laps. Bare challenged several times on the inside but Lake had more horsepower coming out of the turns. Cautions on lap 39 and 47 gave Bare and Max Blair chances to pass but they were not able to make it happen. Lake, who won at Elkins on Friday, was able to come away with the $5000 winners check. Bare had to settle for second over Max Blair, Jared Miley and Andrew Wylie, who started in 15th. Sixth through tenth were Charlie Powell, Jr., Dan Angelicchio, Jon Lee, Nate Smith and Mike Wonderling, Jr. Qualifying heats were won by Angelicchio, Blair and Miley. Bare was fast timer for the night.
Todd English took off as the green dropped in the 18-lap 358 Semi Late feature. English was fast until he pushed high going in to turn one handing the lead over to Jon Lee. Everyone thought Lee would run away but Zach Myers, who was making his first start at the Pound, took up the chase coming from ninth. Lee and Myers had the crowd on the edge of their seats as they dueled for the lead. At the checker it was Lee for his fourth straight win. Myers was second over Bernie Whiteford, Sr., Nick Fulmer, Todd English, Robert Cossell, Vern Ward, Gary Stitt, Garth Fochler and Jason Mullen. Lee and Whiteford were the heat winners.
In the RUSH Crate Late Models Rob Marhefka took charge as the race started. Marhefka led the first five laps before sixth starting Max Blair blew by coming out of turn two. Blair was in another zip code as he drove off for his second win of the weekend. Marhefka took second ahead of Joe Moyer, Troy Shields and Clate Copeman. The heats were won by Moyer and Blair.
Brad Beatty made his first appearance at Dog Hollow a memorable one in winning the 12-lap DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinder feature. Beatty passed leader Cody Young on lap six and then held off Brady Miller to earn the checkered flag. Miller finished second over Young, Skyler Eckenrode, Dannie Mullen, Bill Sheehan, Todd Davis, Mike Potter, Larry Weltz and Jerry Mayes. Dylan Young and Beatty were the heat winners.
A rookie 4 Cylinder feature was run and JT Matney came home the winner over Kayla Bookwalter, Danny Diehl, Dustin Gibbons and Karl Bailey.
It was all Duke Davidson in the 15-lap AMSOIL Pure Stock feature. Davidson wasted no time from his third starting spot in taking the lead on lap one and never looking back. He race off to his second straight win over Justin Queen, Sam McAdams, Amber Mills and Mike Benton. Davidson and Mills were the heat winners.
