TJ Salango Picks Up First Bullring Win In 17th Annual Eaton/ Childers King Of The Ring
6 min read(Middlebourne, WV) Tyler County Speedway would welcome a pit full of 107 eager racers for the speedway’s Mid-Season Championship along with the coveted running of the 17th Annual Eaton/Childers King of the Ring FASTRAK late model special. A great night of racing action would see a couple more first time winners, a rally from the tail and a couple of dominating performances.
A strong field of FASTRAK Late Models would vie for the 17th Annual Eaton/Childers King of the Ring with Beckley, WV’s TJ Salango picking up his first ever Bullring victory and notching the $2,000 payday. It wouldn’t be easy for the talented Southern West Virginia racer as a rear-view mirror full of Michael Bland would keep the driver of the #18 on his toes for the duration of the 30 lap event. While the lead duo were in a cat and mouse game all eyes were on the hard charging 10th starting ‘Mad Mexican’ Troy Frazier who was working the Bullring cushion to perfection and 17th starting Kyle Lukon as they navigated to the front. When the checkered flag waived it was Salango holding off Bland with Brandon Weigle earning a podium finish and Frazier grabbing fourth ahead of Donnie Dotson and Kyle Lukon. Salango pilots the sharp looking Black/White & Red #18 sponsored by Rightway Auto/ Snap On/ Pro Maxx/ Kryptonite Chassis.
In the J&R Excavating Super Late Models presented by Midcap Land and Timber division a tremendous A-Main event would see Jacksonburg, WV’s Travis Brown seem poised to collect his first ever Super Late Model win. A couple early race cautions would relegate both Shane Hitt and Derek Doll to the tail of the field. The duo would charge back to the front as the steady Brown would set the pace at the front of the pack. As Hitt and Doll approached the leader a torrid three car battle would ensue with Hitt throwing the kitchen sink at Brown high and low to no avail with Doll nipping at the duo’s heels. With three laps remaining misfortune would strike the 5* of Shane Hitt as the talented racer would slow sending him pitside. A late race caution would be the last thing Brown wanted to see thus now setting up a three lap shootout with defending track champion Derek Doll. As the green waved for the final time it was Doll blasting around the very game Brown for the lead and completing his rally from the tail to secure his 2nd win of the season at the Bullring. Following Doll and Brown across the stripe was upstart Chuck Kimble, Brian Baumberger and Steve Weigle. Doll pilots the Marshall Doll owned Payne’s Trucking/BSI Well Service/ Rocket Chassis.
A very talented field of AMRA Modifieds would square off in one last tune-up before the 4th Annual Modified Mega 100 on June 28-30. Salem, WV’s Shawn Jett would go back to back and grab his third win of the season in convincing fashion over a star studded field. Jett would win a heat race duel with NY’s Rich Michael Jr. to earn a front row start where the veteran Bullring racer would blitz the field and seem very poised to be a real contender in collecting the upcoming $15,000 Mega Jackpot. Following behind Jett was Zanesville’s Cody Parker, NY’s Rich Michael, current point leader Chris Basich and veteran DJ Cline.
In a caution marred Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmod main event presented by Poske Performance Parts it was new daddy Thomas Sigler notching his first win of the season aboard the Josh Sigler owned/ Schaeffers Racing Oil/ Sigler Fabrication #19. Sigler would hold off a determined Danny Thomas, Kevin Dotson, Roland Bell and Jeff Gorrell for the win.
In the Jenkins Auto Parts Modlite feature event it was Beallsville, Ohio’s Ryan Saffell notching win #2 of the season pulling away from teammate Josh Baldwin, Mitch Ward, Daniel Eddy and John Cogar. Saffell races the Saffell Trucking/ J&T Paving/ K&F Excavating Evolution Chassis entry.
Current point leader and rookie Sport Compact racer Philip Bubeck would garner win #2 of the season. The Colliers, WV racer aboard the B&J Performance would wrestle the lead away from Kevin Criswell and take the checkers over Wesley Tennant, Ethan Drain, James Schnegg and Sambo Cokeley.
Kicking off the evening was the kids of the MWRA Mini Wedge division and taking wins were Tripp Perine over Keith Powell in the Junior division and Gage Stalder winning over Josalyn Hibbard in the Senior division.
