After last week’s rousing success on Opening Night, race fans were treated to a chilly yet efficient show as the second week of the season was put into the books at the Tyler County Speedway. The ‘Bullring’ would present Bridgeport Equipment Night and another strong field of 110 cars would arrive looking for early season success. Danny Thomas would be the first to punch his ticket into the seasons crown jewel event for the EDGE Hotmod division, the Workin’ Man World Championship held later this August. Defending track champions Kyle Lukon and Bill Tennant would flex their 2018 muscle while Michael Lake, Daniel Hill, Ryan Saffell, Ryan Hare and Keith Powell would all notch early season wins at ‘America’s Baddest Bullring’.

In the J&R Excavating Super Lates presented by Midcap Land and Timber it was Steve Weigle blasting off his front row starting spot setting a torrid pace. Behind Weigle was a very patient but determined Michael Lake who would apply race long pressure until getting an opening and utilizing the old ‘slider’ move going into turn 1 at the races midpoint to secure the lead. Once out front the talented young Lake would pull away to secure his first ‘Bullring’ feature win of the season. Lake aboard the Bobby Lake Motorsports/ D&M Trucking/ Rocket Chassis would take the checkers over early race leader Weigle, Brian Baumberger, Robbie Scott and Kyle Thomas.

A very good 2 Brothers Motorsports AMRA Modified main would see Nick Corbitt set the tone early leading a strong 16 car field. Corbitt had a rear-view mirror full of Daniel Hill as the lead duo would wage a tremendous battle up front. Hill would try numerous times under the speedy Corbitt to no avail before putting the Bobby Hill Racing/ KH Motorsports/ Larry’s Western Shop/ FK Rod Ends/ Rocket by Ruhlman on the tracks topside to make the winning pass. Following Hill across the stripe was Corbitt, Chris Basich, Chad Smith and Cody Brightwell.

Probably the race of the night would be the Appalachian Mineral Title Company FASTRAK Late Models where a strong 17 car field would take the green. Defending track champion Kyle Lukon of Burgettstown, PA aboard the Philip Lukon owned Rocket/Gear 2/ Poske/ RACE 1/ Lukons Reb-Fab/ Frankland Rearends/ Motor Mafia Photography mount would dominate the race and pick up his first win of the season. The story meanwhile was the battle behind Lukon where a gaggle of cars was in a dogfight for the runner-up spot. Derek Rogers and Michael Duritsky would thrill fans running the speedway’s top shelf and at the line behind Lukon was Rogers, Duritsky, a game Donnie Dotson and Troy Frazier.

Former FASTRAK Late Model racer, Danny Thomas of Friendly, WV has made a smooth transition into the Hotmod division by going 2 for 2 so far on the young season in the Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmods presented by Poske Performance Parts. Thomas would hold off cousin and defending track champion Travis Thomas to secure the win. Following the pair of Thomas’s was Paul Baker, Daniel Muldrew and Kevin Dotson. Thomas pilots the Wable Ford/ J&T Construction/ Slicks Detail LG2 hotmod.

A great Jenkins Auto Parts Modlite feature event would see the ‘Soulman’ Scott Sole looked poised to pick up his first ever feature win. The smooth and steady Sole would relinquish the lead with just a couple laps remaining to a hard charging Ryan Saffell of Beallsville, Ohio. Saffell would wrestle the lead away from Sole after a race long game of cat and mouse that would see the duo thrill race fans. Following Saffell across the stripe was Matt Ward, Daniel Eddy from the tail, John Cogar and Sole.

Defending track champion Bill Tennant of Colliers, WV in the B&J Performance Cavalier would snare his first win of the early season in the Sport Compact division. Following Tennant was an impressive Philip Bubeck, Wesley Tennant, Ethan Drain and Sambo Cokeley.

In the youth league of auto racing, the Gear 2 Graphics MWRA Mini Wedges would see 19 youngsters head to the ‘Bullring’ and be split up into two divisions. The Senior division would see Ryan Hare pick up his first win of the season ahead of Josalyn Hibbard and Ethan McCune. The Youth division would see Keith Powell grab his second of the season leading Wyatt Demoss and Jake Casto across the line.
