20th Annual Season Point Championships Presented By Alexander & Bebout

Limaland crowned its 2017 track champions on Friday night, with Wapakoneta Ohio’s Jerry Bowersock winning the K&N Filters UMP Modified championship, while Lima, Ohio’s Justin Long wrapped up the Budweiser Thunderstock championship. The Non Wing Mini Sprints made a special appearance at Limaland with Lima’s own Kobe Allison winning their 20 lap feature. The K&N Filters UMP Modified feature was won by Marion Indiana’s Randy Lines, and the Bud Thunderstock feature was won by Forest, Ohio’s Jordan Conover.

Starting the racing action for the night was the McDonald’s Dash for Cash, sponsored by the Lewis Family McDonald’s Restaurants of Lima and Allen County. No 11H Mike Hohlbein would win the winner take all dash.

In feature action, the Non Wing Mini Sprints would take to the 1/4 Limaland oval first. No 1H Korbyn Hayslett and No. 4X Bradley Ashford would lead the field to green. Early on, Hayslett and No. 22A Kobe Allison would battle up front before Allison was able to power by on lap 7. Hayslett would field challenges from No 22R Reed Salony for the 2nd spot for much of the last half of the race, and Allison would slip away for the win. Hayslett would be 2nd with Salony 3rd, No. 11L Aaron Leffel 4th, and No. 3 Alex Watson 5th. Heat Races were won by No. 14D Nick Daugherty, Allison, and Ashford.

Next up were the K&N Filters UMP Modifieds in their 20 lap A Main. No. 27 Frank Paladino and No. 18S Ryan Sutter would bring the field to green, but No. 18 Randy Lines would get a great start and charge to the point before the end of lap 1. by lap 6, No 16 Jeff Koz had charged from an 18th starting spot up to 6th. Caution would wave on lap 6 for No 71 Will Norris making hard contact with the turn 1 wall and coming to a stop on the backstretch. The red flag would wave on lap 14 for No 4G Bill Griffith spinning in turn 3 after a weight came off another car and entered his cockpit, striking him. Details on his condition are unknown at time of print. The last 6 laps would wind by with Lines checking out and grabbing the win over Sutter, Bowersock, Koz and No. 22T Tony Anderson. With the 3rd place finish Bowersock would win the championship over Anderson by 10 points. Heat races were won by Sutter, Paladino, and Lines.

Wrapping up the night were the Budweiser Thunderstocks. No 11 Brendan Rassel and No. 7C Jordan Conover would bring the field to green, with Rassel grabbing the early lead. Rassel and No. 11d Bob Daugherty would trade the lead from laps 3-6 with Daugherty taking a slight advantage. Rassel would battle back and grab the front spot back on lap 9, and looked to be on his way to victory until getting into the turn 1 wall hard on the final lap, bringing out the caution. On the restart, Conover and Anderson were able to get under Daugherty to make it a 3 way dance for the lead and the win, until Daugherty tried to block, making contact with both Anderson and Conover. Daugherty would spin and stop on the track, bringing out the caution while Conover and Anderson were able to continue. On the final restart Conover would win a one lap dash to the finish to win over No 27 Frank Paladino, Anderson, No 26 Justin Long, and No 82 Chris Douglas. By finishing 4th, Justin Long finished the 2017 10 points ahead of Tony Anderson to clinch the 2017 Championship. Heat races were won by No 11* Kyle Moore, Long, and Daugherty.

The K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders, K&N Filters UMP Modifieds, and Bud Thunderstocks will compete in special invitational feature races, then will receive their season awards in front of the fans. 92.1 The Frog will present the Bud Thunderstock King of the Quarter Mile race, 93.1 The Fan will present the K&N Filters UMP Modified King of the Quarter Mile Race, and 104.9 The Eagle will present the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invader King of the Quarter Mile Race.
