4 min readSOMERSET, KENTUCKY (September 12, 2023) – The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series will visit Atomic Speedway in Waverly, OH for the final time in the 2023 racing season on Saturday September 16 for the 20th edition of the Iron-Man Classic paying $7,500 to win and $500 to start.
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series will be at Atomic Speedway on Saturday September 16 and will be featured in a full program of Denby’s J&J Construction Hot Laps, E-Z-GO Time Trials, Heat Races, Impact Race Gear B-Mains, and the 40-lap, $7,500 to win/$500 to start 20th Annual Iron-Man Classic Valvoline A-Main feature event. Joining the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series in action at Atomic Speedway for the Iron-Man Classic on Saturday September 16 will be the track’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Sport Mods, and IMCA RaceSaver 305 Sprint Cars.
Activities at Atomic Speedway on Saturday September 16 will see earlier start times, the pit area open at 12:00 p.m., while the general admission area will open at 4:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will be at 4:15 p.m., with practice and time trials set to get underway at 5:00 p.m., followed by green flag racing at 6:00 p.m. For tickets and pre-sale tickets, visit: https://www.myracepass.com/tracks/3176/tickets/1348230.
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series will sanction the Super Late Model portion of the event and the tire rule will be as follows: Fronts: Open/Any Hoosier Tire; Left Rear: Hoosier NLMT 2 (LM20); Right Rear: Hoosier NLMT 2 (LM20), Hoosier NLMT 3 (LM30) (there is no limit on the number of tires used; the droop rule will be in effect, along with the standardized body rules of WoO/Lucas). The entry fee will be $100 and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $50 tow money.
Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would claim his fifth Iron-Man Classic title after he won the event last season at Atomic Speedway on his way to earning the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series championship. Chilton would win the 2022 edition of the Iron-Man Classic as he would finish ahead of Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, OH, R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, OH, Henry Hornsby III of Beckley, WV, and Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, WV.
Six-time tour winner Josh Rice of Verona, KY holds a commanding lead in the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series points as the tour heads to Atomic Speedway on Saturday September 16. Austin Lay of Walton, KY is currently second in series points, with Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY, Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, OH, and Camaron Marlar of Winfield, TN holding positions three through five in Northern Series points.
