Jordan, Cipriani, Davis, DeMattia, Young Score Raceway 7 Wins!
4 min readConneaut, OH (May 12, 2023): The 2023 racing season got underway at Raceway 7 with five veterans showing they haven’t forgot the route to Victory Lane! When the engines were all quiet at the end of a great opening night of racing it was Jacob Jordan, Ayden Cipriana, Paul Davis, Dustin DeMattia, and Nate Young holding the winner’s hardware.The Whalen UMP Modifieds started with Nate Young and Eric Reinwald’s on the front row with caution immediately as Travis Creech and Gerry Kieler both having problems and unable to continue. When the race continued it was Young showing the way after way at the end of lap one, a lead he would never surrender. By the end of three laps it was Young leading Reinwald, Troy Johnson, and Bud Watson. At five laps Percy McDonald had a coil spring laying on the track and defending champion Joel Watson headed pitside with a flat tire. He did not return to action. After restarting it was still Young leading Reinwald with Bud Watson now third, Johnson fourth, and Casey Bowers fifth. Johnson moved to second at nine laps. At fourteen laps Michael McGee and Bowers were side by side with McGee winning the battle for the position. At the finish it was Young by 3.877 seconds over Johnson, McGee, Bud Watson, and Reinwald.The Bonnell’s Truck and RV Collision RUSH Modifieds started with Ayden Cipriani and Jacob Wolfe up front. Doug Ratana spun at turn three on the first lap when green was again shown it was Wolfe leading third starting Kole Holden, Cipriani, defending champion Ben Easler, and J C Boyer. Cipriai was again second at lap three with Wolfe the leader at lap six. The halfway mark had Wolfe leading Cipriani, Holden, Easler, and Boyer. Cipriani was the leader again at lap fifteen and held it till the end with Holden, Wolfe, Easler, and Boyer filling out the top five.Jacob Jordan and Shawn McBride brought the twenty Sunnyside Farms Transit Mini Stocks to green with Jordan leading from green to checkers. The first yellow flag appeared at lap six for Anastasia Vassen, stalled in turn one. For the final six laps it was Jordan cruising to the win over McBride, defending champion Brian McGarvie, Andy Richards, and Andrew Smith.Garrett Calvert was the first to cross the finish line in the Lakeview Ford Economod feature but was disqualified due to carburetor issue, handing the win to Dustin DeMattia with a 0.637 margin of victory. Following DeMattia to the checkers were Jarrett Young, Dennis Lunger, Justin Chadwick, and Wayne Tessean. The event had several caution periods.The fifteen lap Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock feature was lead through lap one by Kyle Zimmerman and defending champion Chris Withers. Third-starting Zimmerman led lap one followed by Rusty Wheeler, a former champion, with Paul Davis third, Withers fourth, and another former champion, Ed Bolyard, fifth. Paul Davis took over at the front in turn two of lap three and was never headed. Jonathan Davis spin at turn one on lap four with Grant Richard also coming to a halt in turn two. Jonathan Davis again spun in turns three and four. Then at turn Jacob Wheeler spun in turn three, with the spin determined to be deliberate, for which he was sent pitside. At the point there were only five cars left in competition but the yellows weren’t finished yet as Rusty Wheeler looped his mount in turn at turn one. At the checkers only three cars were left running with Paul Davis taking the win over Withers and Wheeler with all three being former champions.
