9 min readPORTSMOUTH, OHIO (July 30, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series and the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series would visit Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH on Saturday evening for the 11th Annual Boone Coleman Gator 50. Brandon Fouts of Kite, KY would lead all fifty laps on his way to his third Boone Coleman Memorial Gator 50 $5,000 victory with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series and K.C. Burdette of Parkersburg, WV would lead all twenty laps and claim the $1,200 to win Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series victory.
Fouts, a 31-year old second generation driver, would claim his first career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory behind the wheel of a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Custom Race Engine with sponsorship from Tim Short Chevrolet, Twins Motorsports, APEX Recycling, David Lee Adams Construction, and Blankenship Wood Products.
Burdette’s, who is 32 years of age, scored his first career Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series and his win come aboard a Stealth Race Car with a Crager Race Engine and is sponsored by Fordyce Heavy Equipment, Central Star Drilling, Tank Lines of Paris, Poske’s Performance Parts, Holdren Construction, Octane Race Products, Adrenaline Race Fuel, GO Lithium Batteries, and Dirt Car Lift.
Fouts would take the lead at the start of the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series feature event, followed by R.J.Conley, Steve Casebolt, Jared Hawkins, and Kenneth Howell. The first of nine cautions would wave on lap three when fifth place running Howell would slow in turn four with a flat left-rear tire. The restart would not see a lap completed as Nick Bocook would spin in turn one and would spin again in turn four on the next attempted restart and would be done for the night. Action would finally resume with Fouts staying out front, followed by R.J. Conley, Casebolt, and Hawkins, while Michael Chilton and Zach Hill would settle into a battle for the fifth position, trading the spot a couple of times before Hill claimed it on lap five. Hill’s run would end on lap eight when he slowed suddenly on the backchute, leaving Chilton now where to go and Chilton would make heavy contact with the rear of the Hill machine, ending the race for both drivers. The restart would see Fouts again get a great restart, trailed by R.J. Conley and Steve Casebolt, while Rod Conley would jump into fourth, and Hawkins would be fifth. Kenny Christy would challenge Hawkins for the fifth spot, with the pair trading the spot on consecutive laps before securing the spot on lap eleven. Shannon Thornsberry would draw the next caution when he lost a driveshaft in turn three on lap fourteen. The restart would see Fouts and R.J. Conley stay first and second, while Rod Conley would challenge Casebolt for third and take the position on lap fifteen, only to have Casebolt retake third one circuit later. Fifth place running Christy would draw the next caution on lap eighteen when he contacted the outside retaining wall in turn three and would be done for the event. Debris on the frontchute would null and void the next restart and when action resumed, Fouts, R.J. Conley, and Casebolt would hold the top three spots, while Rod Conley and Hawkins battled for the fourth spot. Hawkins night would come to an end when he drew the caution on lap twenty-five when he slowed at the top of turn three. The front four remained the same, with Audie Swartz now in fifth, with them running in this order until the final caution waved on lap thirty for a smoking Austin Lay entry. Fouts would continue to lead, while Casebolt would work past R.J. Conley on the restart, while Rod Conley would pressure R.J. Conley for third and take the position on lap thirty-three and Rod Conley would continue his charge as he would take second from Casebolt on lap thirty-seven. Rod Conley would close in on Fouts, but with five laps remaining, Fouts would pull away from Rod Conley and see the checkered flag first, with Rod Conley second and Casebolt finishing third. R.J. Conley and Swartz would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Shane Bailey, Dave Hornikel, Mike Sark, Austin Lay, and Kevin Wagner.
K.C. Burdette would grab the lead in the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series main event, with Adam Stricker, Jeremy Rayburn, Anthony Slusher, and Travis Dickson in pursuit. Rayburn would grab second from Stricker on lap two, with Brad Stone spinning in turn one to draw the first of three cautions on lap four. Burdette would remain on top, with Stricker retaking the second spot from Rayburn, followed by Slusher and Dickson. Dave Jamison would draw the next caution on lap five with a spin in turn three. This restart would see Rayburn retake the second position again, with the lead trio of Burdette, Rayburn, and Stricker entering slower traffic on lap eleven, with Rayburn and Stricker battling for the second spot before Stricker would win the second-place battle on lap seventeen, with the final caution of the event wave on one lap later for a slowed Doug Adkins in turn four and during the caution, second-place Stricker stopping on the track and having to be pushed off the track and be done for the night. Burdette would lead the remainder of the way and took the win, with Jeremy Rayburn finishing second and Travis Dickson would be third, with Adam Colley and Anthony Slusher completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Jamison, Brad Stone, Dakota Cox, Aaron Lucas, and Stricker.
