‘Mad Mexican” Troy Frazier Scores 12th Annual Pat Herrick Memorial
5 min readThe Tyler County Speedway opened the gates on race #2 of the season with a chill in the air and a pit full of race cars for the running of the 12th Annual Pat Herrick Memorial. Over 100 cars jammed into the ‘Bullrings’ pit area with Troy Frazier, Kenny Johnson, Donnie Dotson, Steven Dotson, Tom Sigler, Bill Tennant, Cruz Thomas and Blake Tasker picking up trips to the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane.
A strong field of 23 Steel Block Late Models arrived at America’s Baddest Bullring as the speedway paid homage to speedway icon Pat Herrick with the 12th edition of the Memorial Race and $2,500 up for grabs. The Steel Block Late Model Series would present a six-car dash and a pair of heat races to set the field for the 25 lap main event. Regular Tyler County Speedway competitor Troy Frazier best known as the ‘Mad Mexican’ would be on a rail all night long. The driver of the sharp looking zero machine would leave no doubt as Frazier blistered the ‘Bullring’ from start to finish to pick up the $2,500 payday and biggest win of his career. Following Frazier to the pay window was Tyler Riggs, Trey Watson, Zach Milbee and BJ Gregory. Frazier pilots the Edwards Co. LLC/ WV LandWorks/ Brick Side Bar & Grille/ Lane Pipeline Rocket machine and hails from Mt. Clare, WV.
In the Jenkins Auto Parts UMP Modified division presented by J&R Excavating it was Washington, WV’s Kenny Johnson picking up his first win at the ‘Bullring’ since 2019. It would not be easy for the veteran as the pilot of the Webb Motorsports/ Bazel Race Fuels/ OTC Industrial Solutions/ Octane Race Products/ Poske’s/ Diamond KT3 would have to hold off a host of hungry racers. Johnson would pick up his first win of the season ahead of a fast Danny Thomas, week one winner Chad Smith, defending track champion Cody Brightwell and Kurt Rogers.
West Union, WV’s Donnie Dotson would nab the McClinton Chevrolet Mitsubishi RUSH Late Model main event. Dotson would parlay his silky-smooth years of wisdom around the ‘Bullring’ to stave off a hotly contested challenge from Kyle Thomas to park his #15 machine in the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane for the first time in 2022. Following Dotson was Kyle Thomas, AJ Spagnuola, Zachary Kane and Nick Corbitt.
Like father like son, Steven Dotson parked his #5 SpudLight machine back in the WVU-P Victory Circle for the second time in as many attempts. The defending track champion is set on go so far in 2022 and would hold off a hard charging Kendall Hodge, CJ Dotson, James Swenskie and Matt Yost.
A 20 car Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmod feature event would see Thomas Sigler of St. Marys, WV picking up the win in his first night out. It would not be easy holding off Daniel Muldrew and a host of others as the lead pack entertained fans veering in and out of lapped traffic during the races closing laps. When the checkered dropped it was Sigler aboard the Schaeffers Racing Oil/ Sigler Fab 19A ahead of Daniel Muldrew, Steve Magyar, Jeff Gorrell and Brian Probst.
After a couple of years hiatus from the ‘Bullring’ perennial winner Bill Tennant of Colliers picked up the win in the Dual Threat Sports Card SCDRA 4 Cylinder feature. The driver of the B&J Performance Blue and Yellow Deuce would visit the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane ahead of week one winner Jacob McDaniel, Devin Haley, Jason Frazier and Timothy Harlan.
Kicking off the evening was the kids of the Mini Wedge class and grabbing victory and going back to back in the Junior division was Cruz Thomas. Thomas would lead Arianna Henthorn and Kyndi Glover to the podium. In the Senior division it was Blake Tasker celebrating the win ahead of Addison Tasker and Leah Brightwell.
