Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Kick Off 2022 Season Sunday at Shadybowl Speedway
3 min readSalem, IN (March 28, 2022) – The Vore’s Welding CRA: Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will kick off their 2022 season as part of the 11th Annual CRA Cabin Fever Championships promoted by Track Enterprises at Shadybowl Speedway this Sunday, April 3rd. The traditional area season opener will also feature the season opening event for the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS, as well as the second race of the 2022 season for the Vores Compact Touring Series powered by Mercer County Electric. There will also be a special $1,500 to win Modified Challenge event featuring drivers from Shadybowl Speedway, Mt. Lawn Speedway, and the Midwest Modifieds.
2022 will be the 17th season of competition for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman that crowned its first Champion in 2006. Past Champions include Keith Sterkowitz in 2006 and 2011, Billy Hutson in 2007, 2020nd 2021, Tony Dager in 2008, Charlie Hanna in 2009 and 2010, K.C. Spillers in 2012 and was the 2017 Drivers Champion, Mark Lambert in 2013, Greg Van Alst in 2014, Jason Atkinson in 2015, Eddie Van Meter in 2016, Jason Neal was the 2017 Owners Champion, Tony Brutti in 2018, and Zachary Tinkle in 2019.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman event at Cabin Fever Sunday will be an Open Challenge event between the CRA Late Model Sportsman and the Shadybowl Speedway Late Models. In the spirit of trying to make things work for multiple rule packages, but still remembering it is a points event for CRA regulars, officials have worked to build a set of rules for the event with compromise between the CRA Rules and the Shadybowl Speedway Late Model Rules. Sunday’s Open Late Model Sportsman Challenge event will pay $1,500 to win.
Three-time and defending series Champion Billy Hutson tops the list of CRA regulars entered for Sunday’s event along with 2021 series Rookie of the Year Kyle Worley, series 2022 Winchester Speedway event winner Cassten Everidge and Caleb Reschar. Other top CRA drivers entered includes Winchester 400 Weekend event winner Chris Shannon, former Columbus Speedway Champion Chad Pendleton, former Baer Field Speedway Champion Chad Richardson, Toledo Speedway and Flat Rock Speedway Champion Ron Allen, Jason Timmerman, Nash Engdahl, Matt Maurer and 2022 series Rookie of the Year candidates Greg Stilwell Jr., Kaden White and Keegan Sobilo. Topping the list of Shadybowl Speedway regulars entered includes multi-time track Champion Josh Smith, Josh Sage, Ryan Fleming, Brad Yunker, Tyler Parsons, Jess Drook, Brian Brewer and Brad Coons.
There will be an optional open practice at Shadybowl Speedway this Saturday, pit gates open at 11am with rotating open practice from 2 to 6pm for all Cabin Fever divisions.
On Sunday, pit gates open at 8am. Spectator gates open at 10am. Practice will begin at 10am, with qualifying beginning at 12:30pm. The race program is set to begin at 2pm and will include the 75 lap Open Late Model Sportsman Challenge event for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman. The event will also feature the 75-lap season opening event for the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks. The Vore’s Touring Compact Series will have the D&J Sales 25 Lap B4 Main and the Ault Henderson and Lewis 30 Lap Feature. The 75 lap Modified Challenge feature will cap off the huge afternoon of racing.
Grandstands will be open on Saturday for no charge. General admission tickets will be sold at the gate on Sunday, adults will be $20, kids 6 to 12 will be $5, kids 5 and under are free.
