Keystone State BOSS Doubleheader Ahead

3 min read

The only Pennsylvania visit of the 2021 racing season lies ahead this weekend with a Friday night show at the historic Lernerville Speedway in Sarver and a follow-up event Saturday on the Monster Half Mile at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. The MPD Racing – Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series has been a fixture at both tracks for many years now with a rich history of great racing and very good car counts.

The Ohio based tour first ran at Lernerville in 2013 when local driver Jack Sodeman Jr from North Jackson, Ohio won the main event. The Pittsburgh Motor Speedway first appeared on the schedule in the tour’s first full season of 2012 with a pair of shows won by Grafton, West Virginia’s Andre Layfield and Sodeman winning the fall event.

The closest battle in the championship standings finds just 63 points separating the top 7 at the halfway point of the season. Fremont, Ohio’s Cody White leads 2014 champion Mike Miller by 30 points. Lee Underwood, Matt Westfall and Saban Bibent round out the front 5. Dustin Ingle sits in the 6th spot and Indiana driver Isaac Chapple has rapidly worked his way to 7th on the heels of a historic streak, reeling off 4 consecutive feature wins. The balance of the top 10 consists of Steve Little, Rob Caho and Blake Vermillion. The balance of the top 15 includes Jesse Vermillion, Parker Frederickson, Dallas Hewitt, Cody Gardner and Drew Rader.

Friday night at Lernerville, pit gates will open at 4 with stands at 5 pm. Racing is set to begin at 7:30. Adult general admission is $15 with students $10 and seniors admitted for $12. Pis passes will be $30. Mufflers are NOT required and we will be using the RED – AMB transponders which will be available at the track for rent.

Saturday at Pittsburgh, car owner Lou Gagliardi will have a cookout at 2 pm for teams and fans in the general admission parking lot. Pit gates will open at 4 with general admission gates at 5. Adult general admission is $20 with seniors just $19. Teens age 13-16 will be $10, kids 6-12 just $5 and 5 and under is free. Pit passes will be $40. Kids age 5 and under are just $15 in the pits. Again, mufflers are NOT necessary. Pittsburgh also requires the RED – AMB transponders which will be available at the track.

For competing teams, remember, tires must be all 4 corner Hoosier Race Tires and the right rear must be one of the following: Medium, H15, H20, W18 or Racesaver Spec Tire. You do NOT have to run the same tire all night. Methanol is available from the tracks both nights. Precise Racing will have a tire/parts truck present and the BOSS tour will have a selection of non wing specific tires as well. Cars will draw into heat races and then time trial DURING their hot laps against their heat. There are NO membership or entry fees.

Complete feature payout each night is as follows: 2000, 1000, 750, 650, 550, 500, 450, 425, 400, 375, 350, 340, 330, 320, 310, 300, 300, 300, 300, 300. Heat races will pay the top 4 finishers: 40, 30, 20, 10. There are also 7 bonus awards, five are $50 cash, one is a $50 gift certificate and the last is a free tire from Hoosier to the main event winner. Thank you to TCB Speed, TheCushion, Hoosier, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Accu-Force Shock Dyno, Apple Metal Polishing, Cowen Truck Line, All Star Performance, The Bridge at Sidney and Precise Racing for making all the heat and bonus cash possible.
The weekend hotel deal is at the Comfort Inn at 180 Gamma Drive in Pittsburgh. Please call 412-963-0600 to reserve a room. You may have to allow the phone to ring a while as the world is short staffed at this time. Remember to ask for the “BOSS Racer’s Rate” of $90. You may have to remind them that the rooms are “blocked off” and reserved for BOSS racers. Rooms in the block are only held until midnight Thursday night, so please book early.

Can local Pennsylvania drivers defend the home turf? Will it be a traveling BOSS star showing the fast way around? Or will it be Isaac Chapple claiming an incredible 5th in a row? Maybe a 6th on Saturday? Join us this weekend to find out!
