James Dennis Collects Sportmod OVS/Bullring Battle Royale
3 min readAnother Friday Night Lights show at Ohio Valley Speedway would see the regions best Sportmod teams head to the Valley in the running of the $2,500 to win OVS/Bullring Sportmod Battle Royale. Thirty-one teams would converge in Lubeck and a great race long battle between perennial winners James Dennis and Lance Weppler would treat fans to an excellent show. Dennis would work the topside with Weppler working the middle but at the checkered flag it would be Ripley, WV’s James Dennis parking his #156 in victory lane. Following Dennis was last weeks feature winner Lance Weppler, top runner Cruz Vandall, Harold Redman Jr. filling in for Montana Legg and Pat Garrett rounding out the top five.
It was an all Evans show in the Super Late Models and UMP Modified divisions as the Evans duo of Tyler and Coleman would both park their Evans Construction & Paving 17 machines in victory lane. Tyler Evans of Mineral Wells, WV would garner the Las Trancas Super Late Model feature event as the talented wheelman would fend off a hard charging Chris Carpenter. The defending 2020 track champion would parlay his fine performance to his first feature win of the season ahead of Carpenter, Zach Hill, Todd Brennan and Andy Bond.
Three-time winner Coleman Evans of Mineral Wells, WV would lay the smack down on the UMP Modified division by running away and hiding to grab his fourth win of the season and maintain his current point lead. But the story of the race was the battle that waged for all 20 laps for the bridesmaid spot between Kenny Johnson, Booger Garnes, Kyle Bond and Chad Roush. KJ would work the bottom of the speedway with Booger Garnes on the top side and the duo would race the majority of the feature side by side with Kyle Bond at one time making it a three-wide battle. At the stripe it would be Coleman Evans bagging the win followed by Booger Garnes, Kenny Johnson, Kyle Bond and Chad Roush.
In the Bill’s Auto Salvage 4 Cylinder main event it was Jacob Hughes picking up his second feature win of the season at the Valley aboard the sharp looking #5. After a runner-up spot last week, the Marietta, Ohio racer would put it back in victory lane followed by James Hendershot, Matt Schofield, Kasey Rankin and Jeff Rankin.
In the Mike’s Auto Body WRA Mini Wedges it was James Bailey besting Isaac McLeish and Stephen Sutler to collect his first feature win of the season in the Veteran class.
In the Young Gun division it was once again Logan Perine picking up the laurels ahead of Bryson Long and Joey Miller.
