Rex, Williams & Schultz Top Earners In Dog Hollow Special

STRONGSTOWN, PA (June 18, 2021) – Steve Rex, of Youngsville, dropped in to Dog Hollow Speedway Friday night and came away with the $1000 E-Mod Specail. The Texas Auto Ranch 4 Cylinders saw Williamsport’s Rob Williams grab the $700 top prize while Punxy’s Joe Martin claimed his second feature in the Townsend Gas & Oil RUSH Late Models. Cody Schultz and John Marks were the two winners in the Jim St. John Memorial for the PA Thunder on the Dirt Vintage Modified Series while Mt. Pleasant’s Jeremy Zufall claimed his second win in the AMSOIL/Ron’s Collision Center RUSH Stock Cars. With bad weather on the radar management started the show 15 minutes early and had the show done by ten o’clock.
Up first were the E-Mods for their 20-lap special. At the drop of the green Steve Rex wasted no time taking the lead from the outside front row. He out raced Shane Crotty into turn one. Rex, Mike Altobelli, Jr., Crotty, Troy Johnson had a four car battle at the front while Greg Hauger and Dan Davies worked their way forward. Hauger spun on lap 5. They ran nose to tail setting a torrid pace until Hauger’s night ended on lap ten after his second spin. Davies moved into fourth and joined the lead pack. Rex never relinquished the lead to claim the $1000 paycheck for his effort. Shane Crotty was second over Troy Johnson, Dan Davies, Mike Altobelli, Jr., Carl McKinney, Brandon Householder, Amber Mills, Greg Hauger and Ty Rhoades. Heat wins went to Altobelli and RexThe PA Thunder on the Dirt Vintage Modified Series was next. Hyde’ Cody Schultz took off from the outside pole and never looked back to score his second win in the 15-lap Jim St. John Memorial. Schultz also won the event in 2019. Mark Hahn was second over Steve Longo, John Marks (Sportsman winner) and Paul St. John. Schultz and Jeff Manners were the heat winners.
Michael Duritsky led the opening lap of the Townsend Gas & Oil RUSH Late Models. Martin shot past on lap two. Martin and Duritsky pulled away from the pack but a six car battle was happening for third back. A caution on lap 16 closed the pack but when the green flew Martin took off to claim his second win of the season. Duritsky held on for second over Bud Watson, Joe Petyak, Joe Martin, Kyle Smith, Jr., Tim Snare, Mark Rend and Rudy Bassaro. Martin on the lone heat.
In the AMSOIL/Ron’s Collision Center RUSH Stock Cars Jeremy Zufall passed early leader Bob Torquato on lap five to run off for his second win of the season and first since opening day. Torquato blew a tire with two to go. Zufall won the heat.
The Texas Auto Ranch 4 Cylinders saw a few invaders drop by for the $700 winners pay. Dylan Young took the lead when the green dropped. Young had pressure from a few different drivers as he lead. First Tyler Laughard challenged him before Cody Young took over the runner up spot and gave chase. The brother were joined by Rob Williams and they put on a show. On the final lap Williams was able to sneak by on the back stretch to take the win. Dylan held on for second over Cody Young, Noah Swank, Jeff Vasos, Bill Eckenrode, Ashton Daughenbaugh, Bill Hassenplug, Cruz Daughenbaugh and Michael Sinclair. Heats for the 31 car field went to Adam Pletcher, Dylan Young, Rob Williams and Cody Young with David Needham taking the B-Main.
Dog Hollow Speedway will be dark on June 25 and will return on July 2 with the biggest show so far this season. The RUSH Late Models will pay $3000 to win with the MCS Super Late Models paying $2500 to win. Joining them on the card that evening will be the RUSH Wingless Sprints, Texas Auto Ranch 4 Cylinders and AMSOIL/Ron’s Collision Center RUSH Stock Cars as well as a Holiday Fireworks display.
