Ferguson Sweeps Princeton, Brown Picks Up $10,000
5 min readThe weekend in the Mountain State stared at Princeton Speedway with a $3,000 prize on the line. Twenty-eight cars signed in for battle in the Coal Miner’s 40.
Carson Ferguson picked up right where he left off the last time out with the series at Princeton Speedway setting the fast time with a 16.6106. Zack Dohm went second quick with a 16.6700 and Dillon Brown went third with a 16.7131. Princeton Speedway’s Mr. Exciemtment, Ahlsome, Adam Ahl set the fourth quick time with a 16.9648 and Henry Hornsby rounded out the top five with a 16.9661.
The Ahlsome Design Concepts Dash saw Zack Dohm take the victory over Carson Ferguson and Dillon Brown. Heat one went to Brandon Miller over Benji Hicks and Tyler Arrington. The Outside Groove Heat Two went to TJ Salango over Eddie Hambrick and Brandon Urban. Heat three was won by series regular Zach Sise over Shane Greco and Jordan Hedger. THe b-feature was won by points leader Logan Roberson over Trevor Sise and Tyler Cox
The feature saw Princeton’s Dominator Carson Ferguson take the lead and after a caution on lap one he maintined and held the lead strongly. Dillon Brown and Zach Dohm stared the night running side by side for nearly the first 30 laps of the fourty lap feature. A couple of cautions flew during that time but on each restart those two continued to battle side by side. In the last ten laps of the event Zach Dohm had worked past Brown and it appeared he may work on closing in on Ferguson in the end! Ferguson kept a solid and smooth line though and went on to pick up the $3,000 prize! Zack Dohm would end up second with Henry Hornsby III getting around Brown in the closing laps to take third. Brown ended up fourth with series rookie Brandon Miller taking fifth. TJ Salangon brought the #18 home sixth with Benji Hicks seventh. Aaron Barley in his first night in a pro late model in a very long time took eight with Chuck Bowie of Maryland taking ninth and Adam Ahl finishing tenth to round out the top ten.
The next night the series made the fourty minute trip up the road to Beckley Motorsports Park for the Back the Blue 75. This even paid homeage to all the men and women who serve to protect us around the country and paid a cool $10,000 to the winner in the process! Thirty-five of the countries finest pro late models signed in for comptetion.
In qualifying Carson Ferguson was fast again setting the fast time at a 14.2120 picking up the Earl Ramey Racing Engines Fast Time Award. Dillon Brown would go second quickest with a time of 14.2203. Michael Bland, the defending winner of the event, set the third fast time with a 14.3427. Joe Martin, who traveled down from Pennsylvania went fourth quick with a 14.3441 and Brandon Miller rounded out the top five with a 14.4033.
Carson Ferguson would also win the Ahlsome Design Concepts Dash over Dillon Brown and Michael Bland. Zack Dohm would take the win in heat one over Henry Hornsby III and Matt Long. The Outside Groove heat two would go to Zach Sise over Shane Greco and Jeremy Steele. TJ Salango would take heat race number three over Benji Hicks and Eddie Hambrick. Heat four went to Kyle Hardy over Logan Roberson and Walker Arthur. A pair of b-mains completed the preliminary action with Tyler Cox and Randy Armes moving on from the first and Aaron Barley and Steve Stove moving on from b-main two.
The 75 lap feature started with an awesome pace lap by the Raleigh County Deptuy Sherrifs with the racers and officers four wide. The feature started with outside pole sitter Dillon Brown jumping to the lead. Brown lead the first twenty-two laps caution free with Ferguson close in tow. On Lap twenty-two a caution flew for debris. On the ensuring restart Tyler Arrington would loop the car with no further incident. Green flag racing picked back up right where we left off with Brown out front over Ferguson. A car slowed on lap twenty-nine bringing a caution out and then Ferguson saw disaster strike on the next restart as he stated, “The wall reached out and grabbed me.” This ended his night early putting Dohm in pursuit of Brown. One more incident was all the race would have and Brown would work lapped traffic through the evening masterfully. Brown would go on to pick up the first $10,000 AAS prize of the year over Zack Dohm and Micahel Bland. Zach Sise picked up fourth with Kyle Hardy taking fifth! Logan Roberson was the nights hard charger taking sixth and Henry Hornsby III would take seventh. Tj Salango, Joe Martin, and Tyler Arrington would round out the top ten!
