Conneaut, OH (May 21, 2021): A hot spring day greeted fans entering Raceway 7 for the second event of the 2021 season, a five star show. The Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Model feature was won by Matt Latta, leading flag to flag and the Whelen UMP Modified feature laurels went to Mike Kinney with Kinney getting the last lap pass for the win after a three-battle for the lead at the white flag. Paul Davis took the lead on lap five of the Campbell Mini Storage Street Stocks feature and led the rest of the way. Jessica Harvey took the lead at the halfway point of the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock finale and went on to the win. The night-capper was the Lakeview Ford Economod feature with Jeremy Double awarded the win when the lime limit was reached after the event was slowed seven times for caution and stopped when Mitchell Wright flipped onto his roof in turns one and two. The time limit was reached at the final caution so the race was checkered.
The first feature of the evening was for the Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Models with Matt Latta and week one winner Josh Ferry at the fore. Latta led lap one followed by Ferry, Breyton Santee, Cory Sines, and Billy Henry. Ferry and Santee were even at the line for second at two laps with Santee having the spot at three laps. At six laps Jonathan Stockdale spun in turn four. At seven laps Konar Loney slowed dramatically but didn’t pull to the infield, drawing a yellow flag. As soon as the yellow appeared he accelerated to racing speed. He was warned that a repeat of that behavior would result in a black flag. At halfway the top five were Latta, Santee, Ferry, Dave Airgood, from ninth on the grid, and Henry. With three to go Santee appeared to be closing the gap by Latta pulled away to the win with the top five remaining the same.
Next up was the feature for the Whelen Engineering UMP Modifieds, being led to green by former champion Troy Johnson and Mark Titus. At lap one it was Johnson leading Casey Bowers, Mike Kinney, Titus, and Dustin Demattia. J J Bametsrieder spun on turn four at lap five slowed the event the first time with The order still the same. On green Bowers lost power and stopped in front of the field and Alan Atkinson spun to avoid contact. Both retired pitside with mechanical issues. at green the order was now Johnson, Kinney, Titus, Demattia, and Justin Sax. A four car incident in turn four involving J J Bametsrieder, Garrett Calvert, Demattia , and Judson Fell was the next interruption at lap seven. Defending champion Brent Rhebergen was up to fourth from his eighteenth (last) starting position at lap eight. Bametsrieder spun again at turn four, his third charged caution, earning him a trip pitside. The order at the caution was Johnson, Kinney, Rhebergen, Josh McDonald, and Joel Watson, who exited the track under caution, elevating Titus back into the top five. Kinney and Rhebergen were having a torrid battle for second at lap fifteen for second with Kinney hold on to the spot. At three to go it was Johnson, Kinney, Rhebergen, McDonald, and Al Brewer (towing nearly 150 miles from Belfast, NY!). When the field took the white flag it was three wide for the lead among Johnson, Kinney, and Rhebergen! Kinney secured the win by .099 seconds over Johnson, Rhebergen, McDonald, and Brewer.
The Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stocks were next to take Mark Osburn’s green flag with Chris Bugielski and Jacob Wheeler up front. Bugielski spun at turn four but kept going, not necessitating a caution. However, Wheeler came to a stop so a total restart was needed as one lap was not complete. At one lap it was Bugielski leading Alan Sousa, Austyn Richards, Derrick Randolph, and Jessica Harvey. At two laps Harvey was up to second over Randolph, Sousa, and Brian McGarvie, who moved into third a lap later. Harvey was leading at halfway over Bugielski, McGarvie, Sousa, and Wheeler. Yellow was shown for debris in turn one the Josie Kish spun after the yellow. At seven laps Harvey enjoyed a 3.925 second lead over Bugielski. At nine laps Steve Campbell slow to a stop in turn four. At green it was now Harvey, Bugielski , Sousa, McGarvie, and Zoey Gill. That was the order when the checkers came down.
The final feature of the night was for the Lakeview Ford Economods with Vincent Dipizzo and Mike Harmon one row one. At turn two Joe Dewoody spun, then Harmon spun after green while leading. Then it was Nate Young, Garrett Calvert, and Tyler Dunmire spinning in turns one and two. On the next try it was Dale Reiser spinning in turn two with Norman Hare spinning to avoid contact. Again turn two was hard for the field to navigate with Hare and Reiser spinning on the attempted restart. The disaster struck for Mitchell Wright, who got sideways in turns one and two and rolled onto his roof. He was unhurt but dejected as he walked back to the pit. When the race finally got underway it was Jarrett Young leading lap one over Bobby Vogt, Nate Young, Harmon, and Calvert. Nate Young was second behind his cousin, Jarrett, at lap five. The halfway point saw Jarrett Young leading Nate Young, Vogt, Jeremy Double, and Harmon. Nate Young was closing at thirteen laps then with fourteen complete Double got into the turn three wall. At this yellow the time limit was reached, ending the race with Jarrett Young awarded the win over Nate Young, Vogt, Dewoody, and Calvert.
