Tyler County Speedway Opens 47th Season In Grand Fashion
4 min readAfter near perfect weather for Test n’ Tune a week earlier, race teams and fans were presented with some very chilly temps but friendly skies as the ‘Bullring’ kicked off the season Saturday Night. The chill in the air was met with a packed pit area and a very enthusiastic and amped up crowd as the 2021 season took the official green flag. Picking up feature wins were Kyle Thomas, Mark Dickson, Trey Watson, Jeff Gorrell, Steven Dotson, Mick Baker, Cruz Thomas and Jake Casto.
The J&R Excavating Super Late Models presented by Midcap Land and Timber it was Kyle Thomas of Pennsboro, WV smoking the field in dominating fashion as the talented wheelman had the field covered from green to checkered. Following Thomas across the stripe was Jake Hawkins, Steve Weigle, Tyler Stutler and Travis Brown. Thomas pilots the Powell n’ Son Farms/ Dodd’s Sporting Goods/ The Pizza Box/ Wilson Manufacture Homes/ Hyre Water Well Services/ Brittany Vinyl Design/ Jenkins Auto/ Punisher chassis #57 machine.
A very popular win over a stout field of 21 UMP Modifieds would see the ‘Dr’ MD Mark Dickson of Gallipolis, Ohio hold off early challenger Kenny Johnson and in the races late stages son Travis Dickson to garner the impressive victory. Dickson would put the PCD Race Cars/ AFCO Racing Shocks/ Williams Fuel Stop/ Tye Twarog Racing/ FK Rod Ends/ Swift Springs/ Dickson Racing Shocks/ Tregler Racing Engines zero machine into the West Virginia University of Parkersburg victory lane ahead of a hard charging Travis Dickson, Kenny Johnson, Pennsylvania invader Dennis Lunger and Chad Smith.
It was déjà vu’ in the Appalachian Mineral Title Company FASTRAK Late Model division as Trey Watson would go back to back on season opening wins at the ‘Bullring’. The young wheelman from Weston, WV would show his performance in the 2020 season was no fluke as 2021 would start off the same way with a trip to the WVU-P Victory Lane. Following Watson to the stripe was defending track champion Donnie Dotson, 2020 FASTRAK National Champion Braeden Dillinger, Kyle Lukon and Brandon Weigle. Watson wheels the Appalachian Mineral/ Sam Watson Repair/ Watson Sign & Tees/ TJ Greenhouse/ Bryan’s & Brent’s Place T17 machine.
It was all Middlebourne, WV’s Jeff Gorrell in the Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmods presented by Poske Performance Parts. The likeable Gorrell aboard the Sistersville Pharmacy ‘We Deliver’ RX1 machine would head to the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane ahead of a game Steve Magyar, Daniel Muldrew, Lou Ennis and ‘Rooster Nations’ Zack Robinson.
Clarksburg, WV’s Steven Dotson aboard the Doll Brothers Fab/ Slicks Customs/ Lakeside Rod and Lures #5 Froghorn would lay claim to the Sportmod main event in fine fashion. The sharp looking ‘Spud Light’ machine would take the lead from Scott Alden and race out to his first win of the season ahead of the aforementioned Alden, TJ Arnold, Wesley Reed and Zach Marks rounding out the top five.
Longtime speedway winner and veteran Mick Baker of Pennsboro, WV would pilot the sharp looking D&D Custom Metal/ Dinoco #47 machine into victory lane in the ever-growing Bullring Bomber division. A strong 18 car field would see Baker pick up the win ahead of Eric Tidd, Timothy Harlan Jr., Billy Pratt and Jake Tidd.
In the Kids MWRA Mini Wedge division it was 3rd generation racer Cruz Thomas kicking off his second season in banner style by picking up the feature win with a late race pass of Arianna Henthorn. Rounding out the top five behind Thomas and Henthorn were Leah Brightwell, Bryson Roberts and Kyndi Glover. In the Senior division it was Jake Casto garnering the win ahead of Wyatt Demoss, Keith Powell, Carson Thomas and Peyton Baker.
Be sure to join us next Saturday Night, April 10th as America’s Baddest Bullring will play host to the RUSH Sprint Car Series and the Rush Modifieds plus racing in all other classes. Early season start times remain in effect with gates opening at 3pm, Mini Wedges at 5:30 and Hotlaps getting underway at 6:00.
