Hammett, PA (August 25, 2019) — The Homak Pro Stock Championship Series invaded Eriez Speedway with 31 entries on their second visit to this season. The first visit, on a June 30, was won by Shaun Hooks. Hooks again won the 25-lap main event for the Curtze Food Service Street Stocks. Max Blair made his eighth visit to the Bonnell’s Auto Group RUSH Late Models Victory Lane, Mike McGee made his second visit to the Waterford Hotel E-Mod Winner’s Circle while Brandon Huffman went to the L & D Tree Service Challengers Victory Lane for the first time. The New Motors Super Late Models did not race.

The Johnson’s Car Care and Collision Economod feature was the first to take Mark Matthews’ green flag with defending champion Matt Alexander taking the lead from the outside front row and leading lap one over Kyle Miller, Garrett Calvert, Brian Toto, and Jason Brightman. At the line at lap two Miller and Alexander were side by side with Miller showing a slight lead. At three laps Alexander was again showing the way. The first cautions came in lap four, one for spins in turn four by August 11 winner Kyle Layton and Gary Olson;, and again by the same pair with Justin Clark also joining the fracas with a flat left rear tire, then a turn one spin by Mike Boyd slowed the event. At lap five it was Boyd, Gary Miller, and Tyler Davis spun in turn one. The halfway point saw Alexander still leading Miller, and Calvert, with Olson now up to fourth, and Toto fifth. Clark spun in turn two for caution at nine laps. With five to go the race was on for the lead with Alexander and Miller again side by side when Layton and Toto got together in turn two with both spinning. Toto needed towed from the scene while Layton was able to continue. Under the caution Alexander went to the pit, turning the lead over to Miller, who then went on to his sixth win of the year over Calvert, Olson, Brightman, and Gary Miller.

The main event of the evening was next with the Homak Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks taking to the track for their feature with heat one winner Rod Laskey on the pole and June 30 winner Shaun Hooks on the outside of the front row. Hooks immediately shot to the lead with Laskey, Penn-Ohio points leader Hunter Exley, Jason Fosnaught, and Randy Wyant following at the end of lap one. Wyant bounced off the front straight wall at lap five, leaving debris in the form of his rear bumper on the racing surface. At the end of six Laskey and Exley were side by side for second with Laskey holding the spot. After a caution for a spin by Jackson Humanic at lap seven Wyant spun to the infield coming to green but kept going, elevating Gary Fisher to the top five. Jason Black got by Fisher for fifth at lap eleven. Nick Kocuba spun in turn four for the next caution with heavy damage to the car’s rear. Fisher slowed to a halt after the green. At halfway it was Hooks leading Fosnaught, Exley, Black, and Laskey. Exley took second at lap fifteen and was challenging for the lead. With Exley low and Hooks using the middle groove Hooks led by only half a length at lap seventeen but opened it to a two length lead by eighteen. With six laps left Shane Applebee got sideways on the front straight and was collected by Bill Applebee. With five laps to go Curtis J Bish was fifth. After a caution for Jackson Humanic, who had an encounter with the front straight wall, Hooks and Exley were side by side at the line with three to go with Hooks holding a half length lead at 23 laps when Laskey spun in turn four. Former Eriez champion Chris McGuire came to fifth at lap 23. The final order of the top five was Hooks, Exley, Fosnaught, Curtis J Bish, and McGuire.

The L & D Tree Service Challengers had John Burbules and Brandon Huffman on row one with Huffman taking the immediate lead over July 7 winner Tyler Walters, June 30 winner Chris Horton, June 9 winner Zack Eller, and Lane Reinwald. Reinwald worked his way up to fourth at three laps. At halfway the order at the front was Huffman, Walters, Horton, Reinwald, and Eller. The order remained the same in the event that went green to checkers with no cautions.

The Waterford Hotel Outlaw E-Mods were next with Mark Titus and Steve Rex at the front. Rex led lap one followed by Titus and Mike McGee. Steve Simon and John Boyd were side by side for fourth at the end of one with Titus and McGee battling side by side for second at lap two. Hunter Hulley spun in turn one for the first caution. After green, another caution flew when points leader Gary Eicher slowed with a flat tire. McGee took over the lead after the restart on the back straight on lap four. With six in the books Hulley, Chuck Steinle Jr, and Jarrod Silvis all tangled with the turn four wall. Simon came to second on the green but at the end of seven it was McGee, Boyd, Rex, Randy Hall, and Simon. At eight laps Eric Reinwald spun in turn one, with Garret Calvert and Rex getting involved. The halfway point saw the front five unchanged with McGee starting to increase his lead to a half straight at lap thirteen and a full quarter lap at lap seventeen. McGee was into lapped traffic at eighteen. The top five remained the same through to the checkers. It was McGee’s second win of the season.

The night-capper for the Bonnell’s Truck and RV Center RUSH Late Models had Dave Lyon and Darrell Bossard on the front row with Bossard leading Lyon, former champion Kyle Zimmerman, former champion Max Blair, and Scott Gurdak at the end of one lap. Paul Norman spun in turn four as the front of the field crossed the stripe. At two laps Blair was third and second a lap later when Khole Wanzer and Joe Long spun in turn two. After another yellow flag at four laps, for Alex Haight and Buck Mason spins, Blair took over the lead at five laps. The front five were now Blair, Bossard, Lyon, Zimmerman, and defending champion Jason Genco. Genco got to fourth at six laps with Gurdak coming to fifth at seven. At halfway it was Blair, Bossard, Lyon, Genco, and Gurdak. Long slowed to a halt in turn three on the infield but right next to the racing surface, slowing the race once again. At twelve laps Blair was still leading with Lyon now second over Bossard, Zimmerman, and Gurdak. In turn three at lap fourteen Genco and Gurdak got together but both kept moving with Genco again fifth. Wanzer spun in the back straight at sixteen laps. With three to go Genco and Zimmerman, both past champions, were side by side for fourth with Genco getting the spot. At the checkers it was Blair for the eighth time this season. Lyon, Genco, Bossard, and Zimmerman filled out the top five.

The final points racing at Eriez Speedway will be the Bob Rohrer Memorial next week with the season ending with the September Sweep, scheduled for September 20 and 21.
