Bossard, McGee, Duncan, Alexander & Lawrence Visit Raceway 7 Victory Lane

Conneaut, OH (August 9, 2019): Racers and fans were treated to the thirteenth consecutive night of racing after stating the year with two rainouts. The five features produced a first-time winner and four repeats. The new face in Victory Lane was Mike McGee, in his first visit in 2019. Defending Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Model Champion Darrell Bossard collected his fourth win of the season while Jamie Duncan got his second Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock win. Matt Alexander went to Winner’s Circle for the second time and Mark Lawrence, the current Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock points leader, made his third Victory Lane appearance.

The action started with the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks but was interrupted by a caution as the leaders were coming to green when Douglas Eck’s car slowed to a stop and would not restart. When racing did begin it was Darr Diegelman leading points leader Pat Fielding, Tony Spaghetti, Jamie Duncan, and Charlie McMillen through lap one. Fielding then slowed in turn two of lap two, with no power. Going into the race Fielding had over a one-hundred point lead over second-running Duncan, but that lead will narrow considerably. Duncan was the leader by lap three with Spaghetti and McMillen side by side for third, behind Diegelman and last week’s winner Bill Watson, already up from eleventh. Caution flew when Jesse Brock and Joe Stajnragh spun in turn four. At five laps it was Duncan, Diegelman, McMillen, Bill Watson, and now John Watson in fifth. Bill Watson advanced to third at lap six. At halfway Duncan held a 3.655 second lead over Diegelman, with McMillen, Bill Watson back to fourth, and David Baker now filling out the top five. Bill Watson was back in third at nine laps then John Watson spun in turn two at lap ten. At twelve laps McMillen, Bill Watson, and Diegelman were three abreast for second coming through turn two with Diegelman holding onto second until lap thirteen when Bill Watson got by. Coming to the checkers Bill Watson dropped his driveshaft, spinning sideways and collecting Diegelman before reaching the finish line. The official finish was then Duncan, McMillen, Baker, Stajnragh, and John Watson.

The Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mods were brought to green by Randy Hall and Justin Carlson. Hall led lap one followed by Mike McGee, Carlson, four-time winner Mike Potosky, and former two-time champion Gary Eicher. At lap three McGee moved to the lead and Eicher came up to third with two-time winner Mike Kinney into the top five at four complete. McGee was opening a lead in a hurry, having a 3.088 second advantage at lap eight and increasing it to 3.741 at nine complete when the caution flew for a three-car incident at turn four involving Dan McDonald, Jesse Gould, and Brandon Grossman. The halfway mark saw McGee leading with Hall and Potosky in a side by side match for second, Kinney, and Eicher, now back to fifth. With only five markers separating points leaders Bowers and Kinney, every position was gold. Bowers was fighting for seventh with defending champion Troy Johnson while Kinney was fourth. With five to go McGee was still leading with Hall just 0.019 second ahead of Potosky for second. Kinney was fourth and former champion Joel Watson fifth while Bowers had slipped to eighth. At the finish it was McGee, his first of the season, Potosky, Hall, Kinney, and Johnson. Bowers finished eighth. The points race will be extremely close over the final weeks of the season.

Opening night Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock winner Pete Blaczak and Jessica Harvey brought their feature to Mark Osburn’s green with Blaczak getting the lead at green and points leader Mark Lawrence coming to second over Lane Reinwald, six time winner (and defending champion) Dillon Speer, and Kevin Watson. At the end of lap two Watson and Corey Wick got together on the front straight and spun into the infield, coming to rest against the advertising signs. On lap three Blaczak and Speer were head to head for the lead with Speer holding the spot at the end of the lap. The halfway order was Speer, Blaczak, Lawrence, last week’s winner Joe Campbell, and Reinwald. At lap seven Blaczak spun from second and Speer slowed and headed to the pits. For the restart the new leader was Lawrence with Campbell now up to second, Reinwald, Zack Eller, and Emily Stoyer. The order remained the same with Lawrence going to Victory Lane for the third time this season and increasing his hold on the points lead.

Chad Sines and Khole Wanzer lead the Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Models to green with Sines leading Wanzer, defending champion Darrell Bossard, Matt Sipes, and four time winner Matt Latta through lap one. Six laps into the race found Wanzer and Bossard in a tussle for the runner-up spot with Wanzer having a slight lead at the line, then Bossard edging ahead a lap later. Bossard was firmly in the spot at lap eight when yellow flew for John Watson, spun in turn four. On the green Wanzer got into Sines with Sines then spinning. Wanzer was sent to the rear of the field for his part in the incident that also involved Jacob Peterson, Zach Downes, Joe Watson, Joe Howell, and Alex Haight. For the restart at eight laps it was Bossard leading Latta, Breyton Santee, Kyle Zimmerman, and Jason Genco. Genco was third at nine laps. With five laps left Joe Watson spun in turn four. The order was now Bossard, Latta, Genco, Dave Airgood, and Santee. Genco and Airgood were side by side at lap sixteen with Airgood in the spot by 0.034 second at lap seventeen. At the checkers it was Bossard for the fourth time this year over Latta, Airgood, Genco, and Santee.

The Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economods were shown to the green by Will Pinckney and July 19 winner Matt Alexander with Alexander leading lap one over a side by side battle for second between Billy Cunningham and four time winner Kyle Miller. Caution was on the air at lap six when Dan Moffitt spun in turn two and again on seven when the right side sheet metal from Daniel Neel’s car wound up on the back straight. At halfway it was Alexander leading Miller, Nate Young, Cunningham, and Pinckney. Turns three and four were the site of the next caution when Justin Sax, Judson Fell, Herby Loomis and Bob Vogt spun. Vogt kept going to retain his position. For the restart it was Alexander, Miller, Nate Young, Pinckney, and Jarrit Young. Loomis and Fell spun at lap eleven in turn two then on the green Cunningham spun in turn one with Derek Connors sent to the rear for his part in the final caution of the evening. The finish was Alexander, Miller, Nate Young, Jarrit Young, and Pinckney.

Next Friday night will be the annual Bob & Jackie Vogt Memorial for the Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mods.
