Conneaut, OH (July 5, 2019): Four veterans and a first-time winner graced Victory Lane at Raceway 7 on a hot mid-summer’s night as the Northeast Ohio speedway celebrated Independence Day with a “Salute to Veterans”. When the winner’s laurels were presented it was Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Model defending champion Darrell Bossard picking up his third win of the season, all in the last three weeks. Mike Kinney led the distance to pick up his second Bonnell’s Collision Center win of the year, the first coming on opening night. Curt Bish went to the Campbell’s Mini Storage Winner’s Circle for the first time this season while for Jarrit Young, his win in the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economod win was his first-ever. At intermission the fans and race teams were entertained with a huge fireworks display by Gibson of Titusville to honor the 243 birthday of the United States of America.

Feature racing started with the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks. Rookie Kyle Schreckengost and Darr Diegelman were the front row for the green flag with Schreckengost grabbing the lead at the start over inside row two starter Curt Bish coming to second. Diegelman and Bill Watson were side by side for third with Diegelman having a slight advantage at the end of lap one as Jason Black settled into fifth. Diegelman had third at the end of three laps but Watson had it at four with Diegelman now under heavy challenge from Black. Tom Teed spun in turn two at six laps with Black now fourth. After the restart Bish took over at the front with Watson also getting by Schreckengost for second. Teed spun again at lap nine, this time in turn one. At twelve laps the race was stopped due to an emergency behind the grandstands. After restarting Schreckengost came back to second. The final caution appeared on lap fourteen when Joe Stajnragh spun on turn two. The final one-lap dash had Bish Winning with Schreckengost, Watson, Black, and Jamie Duncan filling out the top five. Heats were won by Diegelman, Bish, and Stajnragh.

The Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mod finale had Mike Kinney and Percy McDonald up front for the start with three-time winner Mike Potosky starting in eighth and points leader Gary Eicher sixth. Kinney took the lead at the outset with Percy McDonald, Casey Bowers, Josh McDonald, and Jeff Johnson in hot pursuit. Eicher was fifth at the end of two, next to Potosky, who got the spot at lap three, then Josh McDonald, Percy McDonald, and Potosky were three wide in turns three and four with Potosky getting the spot to himself at the end of five. At six laps it was Kinney leading Potosky, Bowers, and Josh McDonald, while Percy McDonald and Eicher were fighting over fifth. Kinney enjoyed a 2.050 second lead at this point but Potosky was whittling it down, gaining nearly half a second on lap seven when caution for Rick Pratschler, spun in turn one, tightened the battle. At eight laps complete Potosky was next to Kinney, edging to a very narrow 0.022 second lead! Josh McDonald was having an excellent run in third with Bowers fourth and Eicher, the points leader, fifth. One lap prior to halfway Pratschler and Bill Taylor spun in turn one. Potosky led at halfway but slid wide in turns one and two, allowing Kinney to retake the lead. Josh McDonald moved to second with Potosky back to third, Eicher fourth, and Bowers fifth. As another lap completed McDonald was the leader with Potosky and Kinney neck and neck for second, then, in turns one and two, Potosky spun. Back to green saw Kinney leading Eicher, Josh McDonald, Bowers, and Mike McGee, up from seventh at the start. With three laps to go Eicher uncharacteristically spun out in turn one and was collected by Josh McDonald with Brandon Grossman spinning to avoid involvement . The order at the front for a two-lap dash for cash saw Kinney leading Bowers, McGee, Jesse Gould, and Alan Atkinson at the front of the fray. Dan McDonald came to fifth at the white flag. The final order was Kinney, Bowers, McGee, Gould, and Dan McDonald. Heat wins went to Josh McDonald and Bowers.

The twenty lap Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Model feature was brought to green by Matt Sipes and defending champion Darrell Bossard. Sipes led to turn two when Bossard took over, leading Matt Latta, Sipes, Chris Withers, and Jason Genco at the end of lap one. At two apparently complete Genco was third with Bruce Hordusky fourth and Dave Airgood now fifth. Caution flew as Sipes spun in turn four. With only one car across the line the race was deemed to only be one lap complete so the restart was Bossard, Latta, Withers, Genco, and Airgood. John Oakes stalled on the restart, negating it. Latta began unsuccessfully challenging Bossard at lap four with seventh starting Bruce Hordusky moving into fifth at lap six, then fourth as the cars entered the back stretch on lap nine. Airgood came to fifth at the halfway point. Latta made a strong challenge at lap eleven but Bossard again withstood it. Caution flew at twelve as Zach Downes came to a stop in turn two. Former champion Kyle Zimmerman spun in turn four after yellow was displayed so was restored to his position. Jacob Peterson spun in turn four with four laps remaining then Hordusky pulled to the infield from fifth. Up front Latta was working hard, using the low side without success to get by Bossard. Another caution for Brandon Porter, Joe Watson, and Chad Sines at eighteen and the final caution at the white flag lap for Watson spinning in turn two was all that interrupted Bossard’s march to the checkers, his third this season, all coming in the last three events. Latta settled for second with Genco third, Airgood fourth, and Breyton Santee coming to fifth on the final lap. Santee, Latta, and Genco were the heat winners.

Jessica Harvey and Dillon Speer, the defending Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock Champion, brought the twenty-car starting field to green with points leader Mark Lawrence starting seventh. When the field got to the back straight Zoey Gill wound up in the guard rail with Haefke then Phil Powell got into Gill with Ana Vassen and Kevin Watson also getting involved. A complete restart was the result with Speer leading Harvey, 2017 champion Joe Campbell. Lawrence, and Emily Stoyer after one lap. Lawrence and Campbell were side by side for third after two laps. At lap three Gill got into the front straight wall and her night was done. At the next green Lawrence, Speer, and Campbell were racing close for the lead with Speer getting it over Lawrence by lap four when Joe Dewoody spun on turn one. Campbell then led lap five with Speer back on front at halfway over Lawrence, Campbell, Stoyer, and Harvey. The order remained static through to the checkers with Speer picking up his fourth win of the season just past the halfway point. Over his entire championship season in 2018 Speer had five victories. Campbell, Speer, and Lawrence were victorious in heat competition.

The final event of the night was the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economods feature with Jamie Sax and Jarrit Young on the front row. A complete restart was necessary as Herbie Loomis spun in turn one. Two cautions at lap two, then more cautions at laps three, four, five, and six slowed the race. Nate young was up to fourth at lap eight with another caution at lap eleven. Dustin Demattia and Young were side by side for position at twelve laps with Demattia having a slight edge for the spot. Dan Moffit spun in. Turn four for his third caution at lap twelve, earning a trip to the pit. Under the caution Demattia began smoking heavily and was done for the night. Also under the caution, the thirty minute time limit was reached and the race was declared complete with the finish being the order that a restart would have been. Jarret Young was declared the winner over Alexander, Nate Young, Garrett Calvert, and Kyle Miller. For Jarret Young, it was his first-ever feature win! Nate Young, Eric Reinwald, Demattia, and Jarrit Young were the heat winners.
