Penn Ohio Pro Stocks In Ray’s Race At Micheals Mercer Raceway

(Mercer, PA June 19, 2019): Michaels Mercer Raceway will host the Little Guys’ Summer Spectacular this Saturday, June 22. The program, which will be a preview of the big season-ending event, the two-day Little Guys Nationals, will provide winners in each of the seven classes with provisional starting spots in the fall contest. And, there will be lucrative purses on the line, too.

The Penn Ohio Pro Championship Series Stock Cars will race for a pay-out of $2,011 for the winner, and there will be good money down the line. The race will also pay $150 to start.

It will be the Second Annual Ray’s Race, honoring the memory of R.K. Virgile. “The late Mr. Virgile was a strong supporter of the Pro Stock division throughout Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio, and we are proud to have the race for him,” said track owner Ed Michaels.

R.K. Virgile Scrap Metals, R & R Enterprises, and E & K Equipment will be the prime sponsors for the special race. Additional support will be provided by Eric A. Padin, Attorney at Law, Minich’s Towing & Recovery, Casey’s Restaurant & Lounge, Venango Towing and Recovery LLC, and Wayne H. Hundertmark, Attorney at Law.

There will also be a special dash, sponsored by R & R Enterprises. The contestants in the dash will be the cars and drivers sponsored by R.K. Virgile Scrap Metals, so you know that the racers will want the bragging rights that will go along with the win.

The region’s best Pro Stock drivers are expected, including defending Series champion Chris Schneider. Schneider has one Series win in 2019, a non-points event carried over from 2018. Rusty Moore, a perennial winner at Mercer in the Pro Stocks, will try to put Schneider in his place.

The Ray’s Race winner will grab control of the quest for the $3,000 top share of the Series point fund.

The Racesaver 305 Sprint Cars, presented by Hard’s Welding & Fabrication and River Valley Butcher Block, will race for a thousand dollar winner’s share. Jacob Gomola, Rob Felix, and Greg Dobrosky already have wins this season, but Will Fleming and Kyle Colwell are top contenders as well. They will be joined by over a dozen more racers.

The Turn 4 Toilets Fastrak Limited Modifieds will vie for $1,200. Garrett Krummert, Steve Slater, and Eric Martin have chalked up wins, but Brian and Jerry Schaffer, Brian Sadler, Shayne Izzo, and over a dozen more hot shoes will be on hand. Who will cash the biggest check offered by Michaels so far?

There will be racing action in five other classes, too. The Barris Trucking Modified Lites will be split into two divisions for this event, as the Dwarf Cars will race by themselves this time. The Ray’s Racing Collectibles/Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking Mini Stocks will present their usual thrills and spills. The 270 Micros will be on hand for their first appearance at the track in 2019, and the Junior Sprints will also turn their first competitive laps on the tricky oval.

Despite the full dance card, there will be no increase in admission prices. Adults will be admitted to the stands for just $12, and seniors (60+) will be admitted for only $10. Children (13 and under) will be admitted for free, so long as they are in the company of a paying patron. The Pit Passes will be $30, except for seniors and children (10 and under). They will be admitted to the Pits for just $25.

The Pit Gates will open at 4 p.m. and the spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. Practice sessions will start at 6:30 and heat racing will begin at 7 p.m.
