Zimmerman, Eicher, Fielding, Wilson & Lawrence Score Wins At Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (May 24, 2019): Fans drove through rain to get to the track for the second night of the 2019 season, a night that started with a heavy heart as the track remembered two of its own, 85 year old James D Siferd, a sportsman driver from the early seventies, and eight year old Trenton James Shelbon Vogt, son of long time scorers Jenna and Bob Vogt Jr. Trenton’s sister, Alexis performed a parade lap in his memory to start the evening. One hundred ten cars checked into the pit area over the five classes for an evening of heats and features. A lengthy red flag was shown during the second E-Mod heat when long-time competitor Brent Rhebergen stuffed the front of his racer under the third-turn guardrail after an apparent stuck throttle.

Veterans Kyle Zimmerman (a former track champion), Gary Eicher (also a former champion), Pat Fielding (no stranger to Victory Lane), Eric Wilson (a third-generation winner), all won their respective features while Mark Lawrence, a rookie, collected his first-ever win in only his second start.

Bill Cunningham Jr and Eric Wilson started the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economod feature on the front row with Wilson launching out to the lead at green. Wilson had built a half straight lead at three laps complete when Mitch Wright spun in turns one and two. For the “Delaware Restart” Wilson led Cunningham, Matt Alexander, Mark Titus, and Kyle Reinwald leading the twenty-four car field. After green Wilson again led but yellow flew at five complete when Jarrett Young spun in turn four. At this green Alexander came to second with Reinwald third, opening night winner Kyle Miller fourth and Cunningham fifth at the halfway point. At nine compete Judson Fell slowed in turn one, again eliminating Wilson’s lead. With six laps left, the front five were still Wilson, Alexander, Reinwald, Miller, and Cunningham. Miller took over third with five to go but yellow again flew when Will Pinckney got sideways, collecting Derrick Connors, Mike Harmon, Casey Harmon, Gary Olson, and Justin Chaddock. Under the yellow Reinwald needed to be towed pitside. Wilson yet again led after green and was extending his advantage when yellow flew at lap eleven when Judson Fell and Derrick Connors spun in turn one. Connors again spun in turn one at this green and was sent to the pits for his third caution. One more lap s complete when Gary Miller spun in turn one. Again only one more lap was in when Mark Titus spun in turn one. With the time limit in effect Wilson was awarded the win with Alexander, Cunningham, Miller, and Nate Young filling out the top five.

Chris Couchenour and Charlie McMillen started the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock feature on the front row with Couchenour leading Jamie Duncan through lap five with Pat Fielding third, Joe Stajnragh fourth, and Garrett Calvert fifth. At halfway Fielding was second when caution flew for Dave Snyder, stopped and facing the wrong direction in turn four. On green Duncan tried getting. By for the lead on the back straight but fell back to third in turns three and four. On lap eleven Fielding dove low coming out of turn two and took over at the front. On lap twelve Bill Watson took over fifth from Calvert. Duncan was challenging for second at two laps left but Couchenour again had the spot at the white flag. Fielding went on to the win over Couchenour, Duncan, Joe Stajnragh, and Watson. In Victory Lane Fielding dedicated the win to the memory of Trenton Vogt and to his parents.

Jesse Gould and Gary Eicher led the Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mod feature to green with Eicher leading from the drop of green. At two laps it was Eicher, Casey Bowers, Gould, opening night winner Mike Kinney, and Josh Ferry. Gould and Kinney were side by side at the end of three with Kinney holding the spot at four. Dennis Lunger got to fourth at four laps, then third at seven. With seven to go Lunger took over second then a yellow put him right on the leader’s bumper with six left. At green Bowers got back by Lunger. The final caution came at three laps left when Josh McDonald spun in turn four. Bowers got back by Lunger for second with five to go. At seventeen complete Kinney spun from fourth in turn three with Brandon Grossman also spinning. For the final three laps Eicher led Bowers, Lunger, Ferry, and Michael McGee to the checkers.

The Evergreen Lake Park RUSH Late Models were shown the way to the green by Khole Wanzer and Bruce Hordusky but Joe Howell spun before getting to the green. At the restart Wanzer led with fourth starting Dave Airgood coming to second. Howell spun in turn two and Matt Sipes spun on the back straight. At green Airgood and Wanzer were side by side at two complete with Airgood the leader at three. Zimmerman. Amen to third at five laps as Airgood was building a lead when Jared Kane spun in turn one with Howell also getting involved. Airgood led from the green again with Zimmerman, Hordusky, Opening night winner Matt Latta fourth, and defending champion Wanzer fifth. At seven laps Dennis Dellinger spun in turn four. Hordusky came back to second at green with Latta coming to third. Dellinger and Ron Boardman spun together in turn four with eight complete. At nine laps Zimmerman came to the lead and Airgood spun off turn four into the infield. At the lap nine green flag it was Zimmerman leading Hordusky, Wanzer, Latta, and Bossard. Bossard grabbed fourth at the green and was next to Wanzer at the halfway point. Wanzer and Chad Sines spun in turn two with eleven compete. Zimmerman continued to lead Hordusky, Bossard, Latta, and Chris Withers with Airgood challenging for fifth. With two to go Bossard got next to Hordusky but Hordusky rallied on the final lap to regain the runner-up spot. Zimmerman took the checkers over Hordusky, Bossard, Latta, and Airgood.

At the start of the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock feature it was Dillon and Dalton Speer bringing the field to green but Trisha Jacklett and Alexis Vogt got into the first turn wall hard, bringing red over the race. Dillon Speer led from green with Mark Lawrence second at the end of one when Kevin Watson spun in turn two. Speer, the defending champion brought the field back to green but Lawrence led at the end of two. Speer came back to led at three laps. On turn one at lap five Speer suddenly veered to the right and got into the outside rail. For the green flag it was Lawrence, Pat Hanlon, Zach Eller, Jim Haefke, Pete Blaczak. At four laps Blaczak spun in turn one. Lawrence, Hanlon, Eller, and Haefke were the top four for the green. With two to go Lawrence still led with Hanlon and Campbell fighting over second. On the final lap Hanlon slid into the turn one wall, again slowing the race. Under caution Joe Campbell suffered a flat right front tire and headed pitside. Lawrence, Eller, Haefke, Shane Shook, and Lane Reinwald brought the field back to the green and white flags. At the finish it was Lawrence, Haefke, Shook, Eller, and opening night winner Blaczak rounding out the top five.
