Salango Dominates; Maxwell Punches WV Dirt Cup Ticket
3 min readA great field of cars rolled into Princeton Speedway from several different states. Eight classes of action made for a packed night of racing.
Eleven Steel Block Late Models were in the house racing for a win and a championship. Nicky Pennington would win the first prize on the night taking the $50 Little General Gift Card for the longest tow after coming from Morehead, KY. TJ Salango would then come out and blister the track in qualifying setting a fast time of 16.4642. Nicky Pennington would then pick up the dash win over Salango. Josh Lilly would easily take the heat race win. The feature was one that went almost caution free and saw Salango dominate. Salango would lead every lap and win the feature event. Nicky Pennington would pick up second. Jeff Maxwell would take third and that would be enough to win the championship and secure a spot in the 5th Annual WV Dirt Cup. Freddie Duncan Jr. would take fourth and Aaron Bryant would run fifth. Freddie Duncan Jr. and Josh Lilly ended the season tied in the points. Whichever driver finishes better in the Super Late Dirt Cup will be credited with finishing 2nd in the Steel Block points.
Four AMRA Open Wheel Modifieds signed in for the nights action. Chris Meadows would set fast time at a 16.6695. Aaron Barley would win an exciting heat race over Meadows. In the feature it was all Meadows flying around the high side of the speedway and taking the win. Aaron Barley would take second with Marion, VA’s Justin Blevins finishing third. Michael Moore who had issues would be credited with fourth.
Of the six FASTRAK Pro Late Models who signed in Henry Hornsby III would be the fastest at 17.0346. He would also easily win the heat race. The first lap of the feature belonged to Tazwell, TN.’s Jonathan Miracle, but that was it. Hornsby took the lead on lap two and never looked back taking the win. Mike Faykus Jr. would take second. Jonathan Miracle ran a strong third. Dave Collins Jr. would pick up fourth with Dylan Marshall, the rookie, taking fifth.
The Ground Pounders had five cars sign in. Cody Lowe would pick up the heat race win. In the feature it was like an old Toma-Hawk Race with every car but the winner having issues and pulling off the track. Freddy Mooney would pick up the win. Cody Lowe would take second. Jeff Crawford would take third with Daniel Lowe finishing fourth. Kevin Woodall would end up fifth on the night.
Four Street Stocks signed in for racing action. Zachery Lilly would pick up his first ever feature win. He looked on the way to his first ever feature win until a lapped car was in his line going into turn four on the final lap. Carman Salango snuck by and took an exciting win. Lilly would come home second with Lane Wood taking third. JJ Shrader who didn’t get to start the feature was credited with fourth.
Three Pro Minis signed in for the night. Mark Cole would take the heat race win. Tyler Meadows would then dominate and win the feature. Cole would get second and Tim Black would finish third.
Five Mini-Wedges signed in. Logan Bryant would dominate the feature event and win. September Belcher who is picking up speed weekly took second with Kaiden Helmer third. Fourth went to Logan Collins and fifth to Trent Salango.
Enduro class would put on a great show as well. Zachery Sears would win the event. Justin Beckett took second with Adam Blankenship third. Kevin Sears took fourth and Evan Blankenship rounded out the top five!
