Conneaut, OH (June 15, 2018]: On a hot Friday night the RUSH Sportsmen and the Western Pennsylvania Vintage Modifieds thrilled fans with exciting action as well as four of the five usual classes of speedsters. Rick Hall captured the win in the Vintage Special while Justin Shea won the special appearance by the RUSH Modifieds, taking over the front spot only two laps from the checkers. Dave Airgood won his first Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Crate Late Model feature of 2018 after taking over the front spot on lap eleven after starting the race from the sixth position. Joel Watson, a many time Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mod champion, came from fourth on the grid to the lead in lap three to win his third feature of the season. Kyle Miller won his first Raceway 7 feature, taking the lead four laps from the finish after starting fifth. Steve Haefke started from the pole position and led lap one of the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock feature, then losing the lead to Zach Downes who then experienced mechanical ails to end his bid for seven wins in seven appearances. Haefke led again after a thrilling three-way battle with defending champion Joe Campbell and last week’s winner Dillon Speer.

The regular classes present had some exciting action as in the second Economod heat Mike Harmon and Eric Wilson got together on turn four of lap three with Wilson flipping one and a quarter times. He was unhurt but the car appeared to be finished for the evening. In a display of determination Wilson’s crew got the car repaired and the young star charged to a second place finish after starting last in the 23-car field. Harmon was charged with rough driving in the incident and sent to the rear. After the races Wilson, who had earlier been interviewed by Erie TV, stated simply “That was fun”. The incident was the first time he had ever turned over in a race car.

Josh McDonald and Bill Taylor brought the Bonnell Collision Center E-Mod field to green with McDonald taking the lead at green. Percy McDonald came to the lead just past the end of one lap and Joel Watson moved to third. Before two laps were complete Brandon Grossman spun in turn one. The restart was with Josh McDonald leading Percy McDonald, Joel Watson, Troy Johnson, and Bill Taylor. Josh McDonald was barely the leader over Watson at the end of two with Watson solidly in the led at three laps. Caution again flew at four complete when Jesse Gould spun, then collected Ron Seeley and Brandon Grossman. Amanda Stiffler also spun in the same incident. At green Johnson came to second but Josh McDonald got into the outside retaining wall in turn two, again bringing caution on the field. McDonald headed to the pit under his own power. At halfway Watson led Johnson, Percy McDonald, Gary Eicher, and Casey Bowers. Eicher was third at thirteen laps with Bowers threatening to take fourth from Percy McDonald. Hunter Hulley looped his mount in turn one with five to go. A lap after this green Bowers got by Percy McDonald. Grossman again spun with two laps left, setting up the final run to the checkers. Watson went on to the win, his third of the season at Raceway 7. Johnson, Eicher, Bowers, and Percy McDonald filled out the top five.

Breyton Santee and Matt Latta were at the front for the start of the Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Crate Late Model feature with Santee leading until Brandon Porter spun in turn two, negating the start. Santee led through lap one and Matt Latta took over at lap two. Darrell Bossard was third, taking over second at lap five. Mike Smith slowed to a halt on the backstretch at lap six. Bossard was next to Latta at eight laps when Kyle Zimmerman and Chad Clement got together in turn four. Bossard was again challenging at the end of nine but Dave Airgood managed to grab second at the halfway point, then take the lead at lap eleven. Dylan Goodman spun in turn two at that point for the next yellow. Airgood, Bossard, and Latta continued to lead with Bossard continuing to challenge, taking over the lead on the back straight just as caution again flew for Porter, this time in turn four, negating the pass and restoring Airgood to the lead for the green. This time Airgood began pulling away. At the finish it was Airgood for his first Raceway 7 win of the season over Bossard, Latta, Santee, and Joe Long.

The Western Pennsylvania Vintage Modifieds were next on the track with David Myers taking the lead at green and Rick Majka coming to second and Rick Hall third. Myers spun heading into turn one at lap seven, turning the lead over to Majka. Myers again spun as the white flag was flying. Hall grabbed the lead on the restart, going on to the win over Majka, Alex Morris, Hank Coles, and Dale Zimmer.

Matt Alexander and Mark Titus brought the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economod feature to green with Alexander leading the way on lap one. On lap two Tyler Frankenberry spun in turn one and Clint Smith slammed the wall at the safety opening on the back straight. Alexander again led after green with Charlie Steinle second and Kyle Reinwald third. At six laps complete Kyle Reinwald came to a halt facing the turn four wall for the next caution. For the green it was Alexander, Steinle, Mike Boyd, Kyle Miller, and Mark Titus. Boyd got to second at lap seven. Mark Titus and Mitch Wright tangled in turn one on lap eight. Wright headed pitside. Kyle Reinwald again spun at nine laps complete. Steve Haefke spun before another lap was complete. Kyle Miller drew alongside the leader on the back straight at lap eleven and was leading at the stripe. Eric Wilson came to third at the same time, all the way from 23rdon the starting grid, then to second on the final lap. Miller went on to the win over Wilson (after flipping in his heat!), Alexander, Mike Boyd, and Charlie Steinle Jr.

The RUSH Modifieds took to the track with nineteen cars. Kole Holden and Kyle Martel were on the front row for the green flag. Martel took the early lead over Holden and Justin Shea. Brandon Ritchey spun in turn one on lap three. Martel again led after green in turn two. Jacob Jordan wound up next to the wall in turn two, negating the start. Still another caution when Ritchey wound up against the turn three barrier and Jacob Jordan against the wall in turn four. Martell led again after green with Shea second and Holden third. Garrett Krummert challenged Holden from lap seven but not able to complete the pass. At halfway it was Martel, Shea, Holden, Krummert, and Jeremy Weaver. At eleven Krummert nosed ahead for third but Holden had the spot again at twelve. Chas Wolbert pulled almost even to Weaver at lap fifteen and had fifth at sixteen. Krummert and Holden were side by side at seventeen complete then Shea took over the lead with two to go as Krummert completed his pass on Holden. Shea took the win over Martel, Krummert, Holden, and Wolbert.

The final feature event of the evening was for the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stocks with Jim Haefke and Zack Eller on the front row. On the start Tom Peterson Jr pushed Zack Eller around at the start line, earning a black flag for rough driving and necessitating a complete restart. Ana Vassen spun in the back straight on the restart with a lap complete. Zach Downes shot to the lead at the start but Haefke came to the lead just as three cars spun spun in turn two. Nick Robie and Rick Feely needed towed from the scene. Downes retook the lead on the first lap after green with Haefke second, former class champion Brad Cole third, and defending champion Joe Campbell fourth. On lap four Downes came to a stop in turn one, ending his string of six wins in six appearances. Haefke led again at green with Eller coming to the lead at lap four. At five laps complete Campbell came to second and to the lead at halfway. At seven laps in, last week’s winner Dillon Speer was third. Campbell, Haefke, and Speer raced hard for the lead with Haefke and Speer even with two to go. Campbell got hung up behind a lapped car and Speer lost power coming out of two, allowing Haefke to gain the lead and go on to the win over Campbell, Cole, Eller, and Scott Gill.
