ULMS Ron Baker & Shawn McGarvey Memorial At Freedom & Dog Hollow This Friday & Sunday

The Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series head into the Memorial Day weekend with a pair of events paying a total $6500 to win. Friday night the ULMS Late Models will be at Freedom Motorsports Park in Delevan, NY for the 30 lap annual Ron Baker Memorial paying $2500 to win. The event in memory of the legendary iconic driver of the famous #74 machine is presented by Bob McKerrow & Sons RV, who was a long time sponsor of Baker. This will be the first of four ULMS events at the New York state oval located 30 miles south of Buffalo

On Sunday the ULMS Late Models head south to Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, PA for the first of three events on the 2018 schedule. The event is in memory of former late model driver, Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey who passed away during a logging accident several years ago. The 40 lap main event will pay $4000 to the winner.

All the action starts Friday at Bob Reis 1/3 mile oval in Delevan, NY. Michael Maresca of Fayetteville, NY is the surprising early season point leader with the top three finishes in the first three events including his first ever late model win. He will be joined by Max Blair of Centerville PA who currently sits eight points behind Maresca. Blair has several wins on the Freedom oval the past two years and currently is one win away from tying his legendary father as the all time ULMS feature winner. Doug Eck currently sits third in the ULMS points in the two time championship car owned by Terry Suppa. Local favorite, Greg Oakes, who resides ten miles away will have the entire Oakes nation filling the grandstands. Other Close Racing Supply ULMS Elite drivers expected are John Weaver, Dave Hess, along with R&R Transmission ULMS Rookie of Year drivers, Jason Dobson, Garrett Mott, Michael Wonderling and Chad Wright. Other drivers expected to be on hand are multi track champion and 47 year racing veteran, Al Brewer, Chris Hackett, Nathan Hill, Bob Dorman and local young hot shoe Zack Carley.

Pits open at 5pm Grandstands open at 6:00 pm and racing starts at 7:30 pm on Friday May 25th. Adult admission for this special event is $17, seniors are $15, students (9-15) are $8 and kids under 8 are admitted free. ULMS racers are reminded that the entry Fee is $25 and red AMB transponders are mandatory at Freedom Motorsports Park. The track will have a few rentals available. The Integra Shocks overall fast time will be awarded a cool $300 cash courtesy of Murphy’s Logging. The current super Late Model record is 13.924, set by Max Blair on August 18th of last year.

Sunday, the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series heads to Dan Savino’s, Dog Hollow Speedway for the 5th annual Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial paying $4000 to win. 45 cars entered the ULMS event at Dog Hollow last September. Another very good field of cars are expected to be on hand for the 40 lap McGarvey Memorial.

Dave Blazavich, Doug Glessner, Ryan Christoff are three of the local hot shoes who will be looking to keep the ULMS Elite invaders of Blair, Eck, Oakes, Wonderling, Dobson, Wright, Mott and point leader Maresca at bay to keep the $4000 prize money at home.

ULMS Late Model teams are reminded that the Entry Fee is $30 for the “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial and Yellow Westhold transponders will be needed and used for qualifying and scoring Sunday night. ULMS series will have rentals available if needed for $10. In case of inclement weather on Sunday at Dog Hollow, a makeup date for Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) will be used. Race time is 5pm.

ULMS race procedures and tech procedures will be enforced at both events including the ULMS tire rule of Hoosier 1300 or American Racer 44 or harder compound on all 4 corners are mandatory. Raceivers are also mandatory at all ULMS series events.
