Ohio Sprint Car Series Heads To Wayne County On Saturday
4 min readInside Line Promotions – CLYDE, Ohio (May 15, 2018) – The revived Ohio Sprint Car Series will head to the NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway near Orrville, Ohio, this Saturday for the second event of the 2018 season.
The OSCS was set to die off before Steven Pocock purchased the series during the offseason. He is attempting to rebuild it in 2018. The season opener was held at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, on April 21 with Fairmont, Ind., resident Brandon Wimmer holding off National Sprint Car Hall of Fame driver and former OSCS champion Danny Smith for the win.
“It was a good first race and I received a lot of positive feedback,” Pocock said. “A lot of teams were grateful we are working to resurrect the series. We are looking forward to going to Wayne County. It’s such a historical track and Jason and Kristin Flory have done a wonderful job of making improvements every year. They have a good group of weekly sprint teams so I’m expecting around 25 cars Saturday.”
Pocock indicated there will be several bonuses available for teams at Wayne County Speedway. The teams of Frankie Nervo and Bryan Nuckles were drawn at random for three free pit passes. Also, the fast qualifier will get a $50 gift card to any Speedway Gas Station and the A Main hard charger – the driver who finishes ahead of his or her original starting position by the most spots – will receive $50 cash. Also, all heat race winners will get a $50 gift certificate to Rod End Supply.
“In order to be eligible for the bonuses the car must have an OSCS decal,” Pocock said.
Pocock has also secured a Hoosier Tire deal for OSCS members, saving them between $10 and $13 per tire. He noted teams must have the OSCS decal on the car, complete the free registration on the series website (http://www.OSCSRacing.com) and compete in at least 80 percent of the OSCS races to receive the tire discount.
“We will continue to work with parts suppliers and other businesses to secure deals for our members,” he said. “I’m just asking for the teams to continue to support what we are trying to build and work with us. We are laying the foundation for a great 2019 Ohio Sprint Car Series season.”
Saturday’s event at Wayne County Speedway will pay the A Main feature winner $2,500. Gates will open at 3 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing getting underway at 7 p.m.
General admission tickets are $15 and pit passes are $30.
With his season-opening win, Wimmer leads the OSCS points over Bryan Nuckles, Smith, Nate Reeser, Chris Ferrall, Jimmy Stinson, Mark Imler, Josh Davis, Cruea and Bradley Ashford, respectively.
Danny Mumaw leads the Wayne County Speedway championship standings points over Trey Jacobs, Ryan Broughton, former track champion Brad Haudenschild, Jordan Ryan, Tyler Dunn, Jason Dolick, Clay Riney, Reeser and Russ Sansosti, respectively.
Pocock noted the upcoming OSCS race at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will offer tow money for the top three in series points – $250 for the driver leading the points, $150 for the driver in second and $100 for the driver third in points. The driver fourth in points will receive a free “H” series right rear Hoosier tire and the driver fifth in points will get a “D” series Hoosier tire.
“The tow money and tire deal are contingent on running the OSCS sticker and it goes to the top five drivers in points following our event at Wayne County Speedway,” he said.
