(Middlebourne, WV) On a day when racing at the Tyler County Speedway looked to be in jeopardy once again as an 80% chance of thunderstorms and with rain all around the speedway, the Hometown Racing Association persevered and presented the 30th Annual Earl Hill Memorial. A good crown and one hundred and six brave racers would risk the threat of Mother Nature and were rewarded with a great night of racing that would see more first time winners and feature three last lap turn four passes for the win.

An awesome moment to kick off the Earl Hill Memorial was son Bobby Hill leading the stout field to the green in the blue #87, which was the last car that Earl Hill piloted. As the field blasted off turn four it was Tyler Carpenter taking control at the races onset. Jared Miley of Pittsburgh, PA would hound the early race leader, as the duo put on a great battle at the early stages of the race until Miley would make his move in lap traffic to secure the point. Once in front the driver of the Joe Corrado owned/ Blue Mountain Energy/ Penn Star Ventures/ Colussy Chevrolet/ Jay’s Auto Wrecking #10 would blitz the field to become a three-time champion of the prestigious Earl Hill Memorial. A great battle for second would rage throughout the event as defending race winner Derek Doll would eventually wrestle 2nd place away from Carpenter as the duo went back and forth for the majority of the race. Following Miley, Doll and Carpenter across the line was a very fast and closing Zack Dohm and Mike Benedum would round out the top five.

Defending track champion Shawn Jett of Salem would erase the gremlins that had bit the talented racer so far in 2018 at the Bullring and park his beautiful #1J in victory lane for the first time this season. It wouldn’t be easy as his Brother in law and former feature winner Daniel Hill would stalk the eventual winner at the races later stages as the duo distanced themselves from the remainder of the field. Following Jett across the line was Hill, Chris Basich, Nick Corbitt and Chad Smith.

Former mini wedge racer and FASTRAK Future Cup champion Trey Watson would pick up his first Appalachian Mineral Title Company FASTRAK Late Model feature at Tyler County Speedway. The Weston, WV racer would pressure early race leader Sparky Davidson as the pair would put on a great show. Watson would make his move at the races midpoint and hold off a challenge from a host of others to secure the popular win. Watson pilots the Sam Watson Trucking/ Appalachian Mineral Title Company/ Mule Chassis/ Highlines/ Watson Fabrications Signs & Tee’s/ XR1 Rocket and would fend off Troy Frazier, Donnie Dotson, Kyle Lukon and Sparky Davidson across the line.

A tremendous Jenkins Auto Parts main event would see a gutsy topside turn 4 pass for the win by Alma, WV’s Daniel Eddy over Josh Baldwin. Eddy would work Baldwin for most of the race utilizing the high and low lines until finally making the winning move as the fans were on their feet as the duo came to the stripe exiting turn four. Eddy pilots the Rush Construction/ CSU Inspections/ Eliminator Chassis and would take his first checkered flag of the season over Josh Baldwin, Mitch Ward, John Cogar and Ryan Saffell.

In the Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmods presented by Poske Performance Parts it would be a Thomas in victory lane once again…..this time however it would be Travis and not three time winner Danny. A great race long battle would see a very game Jeff Gorrell fresh off a heat race win blast off the front row looking for his first feature win. Gorrell would have a rear view mirror full of Thomas as Danny Thomas and Travis Thomas were both working the RX1 high and low. On the last lap it would be defending track champion Travis Thomas utilizing the tracks topside to make his winning move and grab his first win of the 2018 season. The Middlebourne, WV racer pilots the Allen Fortney owned/ DBRE/ Norman Jackson Trucking/ MJA Motorsports/ Ford and would best a career best 2nd place effort by Jeff Gorrell, Daniel Muldrew, Paul Baker and Steve Magyar.

Another former mini wedge racer Philip Bubeck in his first season in the Sport Compact division would continue his early season success by picking up his first win of the season. The youngster from Colliers, WV aboard the B&J Performance Cavalier would have a heated race long battle with opening night feature winner Kevin Criswell. The duo would swap the lead back and forth with a last lap slider by Bubeck and mixed with lapped traffic made for a very exciting finish coming out of turn 4. Bubeck would snare the win ahead of Criswell and Wesley Tennant.

In the Youth League of Auto Racing it was the ‘Waterboy’ H2O Luke Hyre picking up his first win of the season ahead of two time winner Ryan Hare and George Casto III in the Gear 2 Graphics Senior MWRA Mini Wedge Division. It was Tripp Perine breaking Keith Powell’s three race win streak in the Gear 2 Junior MWRA main event. Perine would best Powell and Jake Casto across the line.
