Alex Ferree Wins The 7th Annual Connor Bobik Memorial At Dog Hollow

STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 3, 2017) – Valencia’s Alex Ferree added his name to the prestigious winners list in the 7th Annual Connor Bobik Memorial for the ULMS Late Models Sunday night at Dog Hollow Speedway. Ferree’s win kept the streak of new winners alive as seven different drivers have won the race and earned him a $4000 check. Bobby Whitling won the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Touring race while Brian Borawiec won the 270 Micro Sprint feature. Les Myers and Hank Coles took wins in the PA Vintage Modified feature and Justin Koebler won the Super 6 Late Models.
ULMS Series point leader Dave Hess jumped out to the lead as the 45-lap Connor Bobik Memorial got under way. Kyle Hardy followed him to the front and the pair dueled for the lead. Hess and Hardy ran side by side for many laps until Hardy was able to take the top spot on lap seven. A restart three laps later found Hess taking the lead back. The Waterford, PA driver again had to battle with Hardy, who took over the top spot for the second time on lap fourteen. Behind them Andrew Wylie, Alex Ferree, Dan Angelicchio and Dave Blazavich all battled to a spot. Twenty-first starting Jared Miley was working his way to the front and was sixth.
As they completed lap 15 Hardy went in to turn one and got side ways. Hess had nowhere to go and spun into him with Angelicchio just barely making contact but kept going. This turned the lead over Andrew Wylie. Wylie held the lead for six laps when Ferree put a slide job on him in turn three to take over the top spot on lap 22. Ferree started to open his lead up as Angelicchio chased him through lapped traffic. Ferree was able to lead the final 24 laps to claim the victory over Hard Charger Jared Miley, Kyle Hard, who came from the tail, was third. Angelicchio, Tommy Beck, Greg Oakes, Mike Blose, Brady Wonderling, Damian Bidwell and Charlie Powell, Jr. were the top ten. Andrew Wylie was fast qualifier and received $150 from Troy Swindell Trucking for his efforts. Qualifying heats were won by Wylie, Devin Friese, Ferree, Hardy and Matt Lux. Miley and Waylon Wagner won the B-Mains.
The Homak Penn Ohio Series made their first visit of the season. Andrew Gordon led at the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap event. Gordon held on for four laps then Bobby Whitling took over. Whitling never relinquished the top spot as he drove to the checker over Gordon, Rusty Moore, Ryan Sager, Jason Fosnaught, Ray Hickok, William Hurrelbrink, Jackson Humanic, Tim Bish and Curt Bish. Scoring the heat wins were Rusty Moore, Whitling, Sager and Chris Schneider. Bob Schwartzmiller and Curt Bish were the B-Main winners.
The 270 Micro Sprints made their first visit in over 10 years. The 20-lap event looked like it was going to be a total run away for Mason Peters. Peters led until lap 18 Peters car stopped in turn one. This gave the lead over to Brian Borawiec who led the final two laps for the win. Rounding out the top ten were Jeffrey Weaver, Brandon Fredericks, Ryan Fredericks, Chase Metheney, Todd Reusser, Tim Eakin, Anthony Pasquerella, Mike Kerr, Eric Forsythe, Noah Wirginis and Hunter Forsythe. Taking the heat race wins were Peters, JT Horwat and Brian Borawiec.
Next up was the PA Vintage Modifieds. Dingo Kirkwood led the opening two laps of the feature event. Kirkwood gave way to the high flying veteran Les Myers. Myers usually pulls away but this time Cody Schultz followed suit. Schultz and Myers went at it, even making slight contact, but Myers still held on. Bob Johnson, who started ninth, then came on at the end and almost got Myers but ran out of time. Myers took the win followed by Bob Johnson, Matt Hildenbrand, Rick St. Pierre. Kevin Mahoney, Rick Hall, Tim Natalino, Hank Coles, Luke Zimmer and Dan Osmer. Kirkwood and Natalino won the two heats.
It was final point night for the Super 6 Late Models. Justin Koebler picked a good time to earn his second win. Koebler led all 15 laps to beat out Levi Spinneweber, Mike Spinneweber, Ed Dunkel and Frank McFeaters. The heat was won by Mike Spinneweber.
