Winged Sprints Return To PPMS

Racing continues at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 2, as the 410 Outlaw Winged Sprints, the fastest cars in dirt track racing, will return for their final visit of the season for the running of the “Fall Wing Fling.” Also in competition will be weekly point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
On Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9, the TRAXXAS Monster Truck Destruction Tour will be visiting, in place of the weekly racing program.
Weekly racing will then continue through the month of September, as the Saturday, September 16 racing program will see members of AAA as guests of the speedway with discounted general admission for AAA Members. The CarSmile Wiper Blades “Thunder on the Dirt” Vintage Racing Series and the Econo-Mod division will be visiting. The Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models will compete in their final Sizzler Series event. There will be point racing for the Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
The Saturday, September 23 program will feature “Open Wheel Mania” for Alternative Power Sources Outlaw 305 Sprints, and the RUSH Modifieds competing in “Modisaures X.” There will be weekly point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
Saturday, September 30 will be the final point race for 2017, featuring the “Tune-Up 20” for Diehl Automotive Super Late Models, in their final point race in preparation for the Pittsburgher 100. The RUSH Modifieds will make their final visit of the season, and there will be Kids Bike Races. Point racing will conclude for the season for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
The 2017 racing season will conclude with the running of the 29th Annual Pittsburgher 100. Qualifying events will take place on Friday, October 6, with features running on Saturday, October 7. Highlighting the action will be the 100 lap, $20,000 to win, Pittsburgher 100 featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, along with the 30 lap Bill Hendren Memorial for the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Marquee Series, and the Cruise America PENNational for the Homak Manufacturing Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Series.
The victory by Mike Norris in last Saturday’s Red Miley Rumble earned him $3553 in the 35 lap main event. Alex Ferree settled for second in the race but did win the three race Diehl Automotive Super Series title, added to the earlier ULMS and Ultimate Series events.
Jon Hodgkiss leads the Diehl Automotive Super Late Model points by 11 over Matt Dobnak with just one event remaining for the division, on September 30. Justin Lamb has a commanding lead in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Model point standings, by 76 points over John Mollick, after his closest challenger Daryl Charlier missed last Saturday’s event due to engine issues. New track record holder Dave McManus extended his lead in the Sunoco Sportsman standings to 21 points after his victory and Danny Rich failing to finish. In the Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, feature winner Karlee Kovacs extended her lead to 15 points over Stephen Shelpman, with Casey Grumling one point back in third. Ben Anton leads Kayla McManus by 9 points in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns. Matthew Rubright leads Tom Anton by 34 points in the CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
The 2017 fuels incentive continues to race on at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Sponsored by Brian Bazell of Bazell Race Fuels, the fuel incentive program is open to each week to any race team in the RUSH Late Models and Sunoco Sportsman division. To be entered, teams must purchase at least five gallons of fuel at the track to be eligible, plus carry a Sunoco decal. The highest finishing car that is entered and eligible will earn five gallons of the fuel that they purchased on each race night. Fuel winners during the August 26 Red Miley Rumble were Chuck Medved in the RUSH Late Models and Dave McManus in the Sunoco Sportsman.
